The American basketball professional Gordon Hayward has been very successful in his career since his professional debut in 2010 with Utah Jazz. Hayward switched to the Boston Celtics in 2017. This article contains interesting facts about the Indiana-born player.

Gordon Hayward Wife, Family

After Gordon was in a long-term relationship, five years to be precise, with a certain Kolbi Killingback, which eventually ended, he was not yet ready for another long-term date when he fell in love again.

In 2014, about two years after the end of his previous relationship, Gordon was ready to walk down the aisle with Robyn Hayward (née Van Vilet), a colleague from Indiana with whom he had only been dating for five months.

The details of their first meeting are not known to the media, but it is speculated that the duo must have met in Indiana, where they both grew up and studied.

At the time of their first date (2013), Robyn was in high school, while Gordon, who had left college, was already playing in the NBA, putting their relationship in the spotlight.

On Christmas Eve of 2013, Gordon proposed to Robyn and she was so excited about it that she shared it with Instagram fans with a caption describing Gordon as the love of her life…

It took them about five months to plan their wedding, which took place on May 24, 2014, at St. Simon the Apostle Church in Indianapolis.

Gordon did not reveal exactly what attracted him to Robyn, but the most likely thing is that she is an athlete like him. Robyn was born on April 8, 1995, and played volleyball in high school (Indianapolis Bishop Chartered High School) and she was enormously good at it. No! We’re not mincing words. She was ranked fourth-best volleyball player in Indiana by Max Preps.

In 2012, her team won the 2012 State Championship title, thanks in large part to Robyn’s tenacity as a strong defensive specialist. She was a senior who was about 5 feet 5 inches tall. It’s too bad she didn’t choose a college career.

Another possible reason Gordon might have fallen in love with his wife is that she’s selfless. During her time in high school, Robyn made a lot of volunteer work out of her busy training schedule, including giving free food to those in need. And it runs in her family. Gordon’s in-laws make philanthropic contributions to a school in Magdalena, Guatemala.

While it is a little disappointing that Gordon’s wife did not pursue a college volleyball career, she did learn about the cosmetics industry by attending a beauty school.

As with their marriage, Gordon and Robyn did not waste any time starting a family. Following an announcement by Gordon in February 2015, their first daughter, Bernadette Marie Hayward, was born on June 6, 2015.

Just over a year later, the couple added another daughter. She was born on 11 July 2016 and was given the name Charlotte Margaret Hayward. Gordon is such a family man, he retired from Team USA for the Summer Olympics in Rio to be at his wife’s side when the baby came.

Gordon Hayward Wiki, Sister, Parents

Hayward was born Gordon Daniel Hayward on 23 March 1990 in Indianapolis, Indiana. He has a twin sister named Heather. Together with his twin, Gordon aspired to become a professional athlete early on, focusing on both tennis and basketball.

However, while Gordon became more interested in basketball, he decided to concentrate on tennis, thinking that he would not be tall enough to be successful in this sport, as both his parents, Gordon Scott Hayward and Jody Hayward, are 1.5 meters 10 inches tall.

Gordon’s parents supported him every step of the way. When he decided to give up basketball in high school, his mother persuaded him to continue playing for another year, and Gordon faced the most exciting shock of his life as he grew taller than anyone could have imagined.

He grew from 5’11” as a freshman to 6’4″ in his second year.

His high school record was so good that he had three scholarships to choose from, including his parent’s alma mater, Purdue, which he and his twin sister originally intended to attend.

However, Gordon chose Butler, who had a practice time of 6:30 a.m., which would make his plans to major in computer engineering less difficult.

After two years in college, Gordon’s impressive skills on the field, particularly his performance at the FIBA U-19-U19 World Championship in Auckland, New Zealand, attracted a handful of scouts who convinced his parents that he was ready for the NBA.

However, Gordon’s decision to include him in the 2010 selection was not taken immediately, as they had to make a number of considerations to be sure they were doing the right thing for their son.

He was selected by Utah Jazz, which marked the beginning of his NBA career. After seven good years with Jazz, Gordon changed teams in 2017 and signed a 4-year contract worth around $128 million for the Boston Celtics. He was also named NBA All-Star for the first time.

Injury

Injury and athlete are simply inseparable. Barely 6 months with his new team, Hayward suffered a cruel ankle injury that left him with a broken shin.

In a season opener against the Cleveland Cavaliers of LeBron James in October 2017, Hayward landed in a way that threw his legs off balance. Watch the video here. Be warned, though, few on the pitch could bear the sight of Hayward’s twisted leg.

He had to undergo surgery to correct the situation. In January 2018, about three months after the injury, Hayward was taken off the pitch without his leg irons to help him walk, and fans could not help but take it as a good sign that their star man would be back on the pitch sooner than expected.

House

With an estimated salary of $30 million. P.S.: He earned $57.3 million in salary from jazz alone, Gordon has earned the right to live like a king.

He has a string of houses scattered across the country. In October 2015, the LA Times reported that he lost $3.35 million to a guarded ranch with a tennis court in Rancho Santa Fe, California. The villa has 6 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, a detached guest house, a spa, a pool, and much more.

Gordon has another house in Sandy Utah worth about $700,000.
