Maria Bamford Bio, Husband and Other Lesser Known Facts

As a comedienne, Maria Bamford has become known for her peculiar style of comedy, which has earned her the admiration of many people who consider her a brilliant, genuine, and relevant clown, as her works focus on subjects that are generally ignored.

You only have to watch Maria perform once to realize that her jokes have a connotation of self-hatred and deal with topics ranging from dysfunctional families to mental illness, money-related depression, and anxiety.

Maria Bamford Bio

Besides her work as a comedian, Bamford has also established herself as an actress and dubbing artist. She has had a handful of roles in film and many more on television. Records of her work, which has spread to web series and documentaries, would not be complete without mentioning that the full list of her tape recordings is quite robust.

The comedienne was born on September 3, 1970. Records show that her birthplace was at the California naval base Port Hueneme. She grew up in Duluth, Minnesota. As at the time of her birth, her father (Joel Bamford) worked as a doctor in the Navy.

Maria received her earliest formal education in Duluth, after which she transferred to Maine’s Bates College in Lewiston. At this point in her life, she was severely depressed and emotionally unstable to the point of trying to harm herself.

Later Maria moved to the Scottish University of Edinburgh where she became an active member of a comedy group. But this was not to last long, as Maria saw the need to return home after a year to study at the University of Minnesota. It was at this institution that she eventually earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in creative writing.

Is She Married, Who’s Her Husband?

Although some people speculated about Maria’s love life, many simply assumed, given her age, that she had no interest in anything like a romantic affair. For this reason, it was quite a surprise when the comedian announced sometime in December 2014 that she was in love with a man.

Maria revealed that the man was Scott Marvel Cassidy, an artist from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, famous for his drawings, paintings, and sculptures. If Maria’s fans were happy for her when she revealed this, they were overjoyed when they learned that she was engaged to the artist.

The union between Maria and Scott was finally officially launched in 2015 with a private ceremony to mark the beginning of their marriage. As far as we know, the two are happy together, but will not yet have children.

Bamford Has a History of Mental Breakdown

What inspired Bamford’s comic style is by and large not far-fetched – it has a history of mental breakdown. But if you insist on learning more about why she performs the way she does and ask her about it, Bamford would most likely point out that she developed an interest in talking about money-related negative emotions when she fought poverty for several years after graduating college.

She would also point out that her mental illness made her talk about her state of health in a way that made people think, made them aware of the misunderstandings associated with mental illness, and at the same time still made people laugh.

Her Fame Isn’t Spontaneous

Maria Bamford’s fame is not spontaneous, she was in the limelight for years before she finally began to gain the widespread attention she now enjoys and was very concerned about. But she couldn’t have much fun and started to integrate with stand-up as a violinist.

She Comes from a Family of Doctors
