When Chicago Police received a report of a man chasing a woman with a gun Andres was one of the officers who responded.
Tragically the 18-year-old male suspect was shot while performing his duties and was taken to Mount Sinai Medical Center where doctors pronounced him dead.
Following the incident, a large group of police officers gathered at the hospital and spent the entire night praying for his family.
His body was later transported to the Cook County mortuary on the West Side.
After fleeing a stolen car that was wanted in connection with a shooting the shooter was apprehended with two handguns.
The cop was married and had a young daughter. The three-person family was living in Marquette Park where they had only moved a year before.
Sara Montemayor, the Policeman’s neighbor said she saw him with his family walking their dogs the day before he was shot.
“We’re out here to pay our respects to our brother in blue,” one of the officers said. “He was always smiling,” said the officer.
The officer stated that they worked a different shift than Vasquez-Lasso and only knew him in passing but that he was bright and on the rise.
18 Years Old Boy Arrested And Charged With Murder
The shooter identified as Steven Montano 18 was apprehended. Despite being injured the officer could shoot Montano in the head.
According to the Source Montano has been receiving medical attention at Stroger Hospital and is in critical condition.
The teen has been charged with the murder of a Chicago Police Officer as well as multiple other counts stemming from the fatal shooting on Wednesday.
Montano is scheduled to appear in bond court on Friday but his injuries make it unclear whether he will be able to attend. He is still receiving medical care at Stroger Hospital.
Maria Davila an eyewitness said she was watching a movie at home when the shooting occurred.
Looking out her window she noticed a man in the parking lot screaming and clutching his chest while Vasquez-Lasso the officer who has shot lay motionless closer to the playground.
Davila stated that she overheard the man on the ground yelling “Shoot me shoot me” at another officer who stood between him and Vasquez-Lasso.
Hopefully, no one else was hurt besides the officer and the shooter. When the shooting occurred children were on the playground.
Montano had previously been arrested on a misdemeanor charge of obstructing or resisting a peace officer but the charge was later dropped by prosecutors.
