Melissa Fumero is a soap opera star, an American actress known for the role of Adriana Corner in the series One Life to Live and Zoe in Gossip Girl. More recently, she has received much acclaim for starring alongside Adam Sandberg as his nerdy partner (Amy) in the hit series Brooklyn Nine-Nine, which has attracted a huge fan base. Her pleasant demeanor, good looks, and comedic performance make her a favorite of many and have earned her a number of awards.

The charming actress was born on August 19, 1982, as Melissa Gallo, the daughter of Cuban parents. Her parents immigrated to America as teenagers. Melissa was born and raised in New Jersey. She started dancing as a child because her parents signed her up for dance and acting classes and she eventually got the performance bug.

Melissa Fumero serenaded the community and sang in her local church choir. She also performed in theater productions at her school. After graduating from high school, she attended New York University, where she earned a bachelor’s degree in fine arts with a major in acting.

Unlike other actors who had a hard time finding work and a foothold in their chosen career, Melissa got her first job on her last day at the university. She was offered a role in the Emmy Award-winning series One Life to Live, a very popular soap opera that had been running since 1968. She was on the series until 2011 when she starred in All My Children, an offshoot of the earlier series in which she played the same character. At that time Melissa was given a small role in the star-studded Gossip Girl.

Her breakthrough on the big screen came when she starred in Tiny Dancer, an independent film that was not widely distributed. She also secured a bigger role in the movie Descent, although her character didn’t have a name. In the film comedy, I Hope They Serve Beer in Hell she played a character with her real name. Melissa joined the cast of Brooklyn Nine-Nine in 2013 and played Amy Santiago, a police detective at the police station of the same name. Her co-stars included Jo Lo Truglio, Adam Sandberg, and Chelsea Peretti.

She has also had small appearances in a number of other television series, including The Mentalist, Men at Work, Royal Pains, CSI: NY, and Hell’s Kitchen. The New Jersey-born actress has had several guest appearances in web series and other short films. She is the narrator of an audiobook entitled The Land I Lost (Ghosts of the Shadow Market 7).

Melissa Fumero was nominated for the ALMA, Imagen Awards, and the NHMC Impact Awards, which she won. The actress is very involved in charity work. Melissa met her husband, David Fumero, on the set of One Life to Live, in which he also played the leading role. David is Cuban, just like Melissa. She never thought she would marry another Latino until she met him.

The love story of David and Melissa actually began much earlier, years before their paths crossed. When the gorgeous Brooklyn Nine-Nine Star was 13 years old, she had a big crush on David Fumero, who was 10 years older and could be seen regularly on MTV, where he worked as a model. However, it took her a few months to realize that he was the David of her teenage obsessions.

In the beginning, they hid their relationship to avoid the public eye. The two married in early December 2007 and despite the rumors circulating about extramarital affairs, they are still happily married. David admits that it was hard for him to watch his wife fall in love with someone else on the show while he was playing her cousin, but with trust and understanding, they got over it.

Melissa became pregnant while filming the third season of Brooklyn Nine-Nine, and her son was born five days after the end of shooting for that season on March 24, 2016. They named the little boy Enzo. The family continues to live happily in their home in Los Angeles.
