You may not know that, but Desaulniers is her real last name, the actress was considerate enough to take her great-grandmother’s maiden name so that we mortals could have a chance to pronounce her name. Well, today it’s time to meet the entire Desaulniers clan; from Brie Larson’s Mom to her sister.
Brie Larson’s Mom
Her name is Heather Desaulniers and in case the last name confuses you for a second, she is Brie Larson’s mother. Heather is a big influence in Brie’s life, no doubt you can worship her at some point when raised by a single parent, especially when they were super supportive as a whole.
Brie was born when her two parents were still together, in Sacramento, where they were both chiropractors who shared a practice. When she was just six years old, they divorced, and that ended with Heather and her two daughters moving to Los Angeles to start their new lives.
More recently, in her brilliant performance in the movie Room, which earned her an Oscar, Brie channeled her mother to nail the heartbreaking role she had to play. Although the actual story began a little on the sad side, she found a way to make it beautiful, and so she did.
I didn’t have any toys, and I had two shirts, one jeans, and that was it. But I had my mother to myself and I remember it was the coolest time. I loved it. I really loved it, for me “space” is an opportunity to relive an aspect of my childhood that I hadn’t put a lot of thought into.
She added: “It’s such a powerful metaphor for me now, and it bothers me that this film is what made this experience possible for me.

Brie Larson’s Dad
In most stories, there is a hero and a villain, in this story you can guess who the villain is? It’s certainly not Brie Larson’s mother, so the prize goes to her father. Since the star hasn’t spoken or contacted him for a little over a decade, it’s a little obvious that he wasn’t exactly the most “present” father out there.
Here’s what she told Elle Magazine about her exhausting relationship with her father: ‘When I legally didn’t have to visit him anymore, I jumped on it. As a child, I tried to understand him and the situation. But he didn’t do himself a favor.
Nevertheless, it seems that the chiropractor from Sacramento is taking every opportunity to show that he is still very much on his daughter’s side; in October 2015 Desaulniers shared a video of Larson at The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, then next year in September he congratulated her on winning an award from IMDb.
Here’s what he posted on his page, “Go Brie.” This movie, Room, looks fantastic! Her tense relationship only makes us wonder if there was more than one reason why she changed her last name, well, that’s food for thought.
