While difficulties break some people, they can make others stronger. The story of Barbara Mori is a confirmation of the latter. Born in Uruguay, the Mexican actress had to become independent at a young age because of the hand that life offered her. Since then she has worked her way up from casual jobs as a teenager to one of the most famous names in Mexican television and entertainment.

Her acting portfolio dates back to her debut in the mid-1990s with roles in the Mexican comedy series Tric Trac (1996) and Mirada de Mujer (1997). Mori remained loyal to the Mexican filmmaker until later in her career, when she gained a foothold in the Indian entertainment market with her role in films such as Kites (2010).

When she was three years old, her parents divorced and this marked the beginning of a phase in Barbara’s life in which she was shuttled back and forth between Mexico and Uruguay, although she eventually chose Mexico permanently at the age of 12. Her constant movement between countries taught her early on that she had to take her life into her own hands. This led the would-be actress to take odd jobs for a while to support herself.

One day she was noticed by a fashion designer named Marcos Toledo while she was working as a waitress in a local restaurant. This introduced her to the world of modeling. Three years later Barbara Mori finally moved out of the house and moved in with her cousins.

A series of events that took place over the next few years led her to take acting lessons at El Centro de Estudios de Formación Actoral and then in 1996 she made her acting debut in the Mexican telenovela El Centro de Estudios de Formación Actoral. For her subsequent performance in Mirada de Mujer, the actress received her first prize – a TVyNovelas Award in the category “Best Emerging Actress”.

In 1998 she played the main character, Azul Vidal, in the drama series Azul Tequila. She appeared in the series for 64 episodes. One year later, Peruvian actor Christian Meier came on set for the series Me muero por tí and shot a total of 91 episodes.

After a few more TV series she got her first role in a movie. The novel comedy “Inspiración” was shot and published in 2001 to great praise, and it also proved to be commercially successful.

The success continued and in 2004 she signed a contract with Mexico’s largest Mexican mass media network, where she took on the leading role of the main character Rubi in the blockbuster soap opera of the same name. This role earned her the second TVyNovelas Award.

For the film La Mujer de mi Hermano, she teamed up again with Christian Meier and played the role of Zoe, the love goddess, and wife of Christian Meier.

Barbara Meier’s next big success came in 2009 with the psychological thriller Amor, Dolor y Viceversa. In the film, she played the leading role with Leonardo Sbaraglia. It was also her first success as a producer.

In 2008 she began working with the Indian producer Rakesh Roshan on his film Kites. She played the leading role with the producer’s son, Hrithik Roshan. The film was shot in various cities, including Los Angeles, New Mexico, and Las Vegas. The film was released in May 2010.

Her next production contribution came in 2011 with the film Viento En Contra. Although the film was distributed by Warner Bros., it was not as successful as she had hoped.

Since then, the actress has not let up and has appeared in a number of films and TV series. Some of them are Dos Lunas (2014), Cantinflas (2014), Operation Goldenshell (2017), and The Mongolian Conspiracy (2019).

Barbara Mori’s romantic life is, as far as is known, a really short film role. The actress met the Mexican actor Sergio Mayer in 1996 during the early stages of her career. The couple had a son together in 1998 – Sergio Mayer Mori – and separated shortly after.

Mori began a relationship with Kenneth Ray Sigman – who is eleven years younger than her – sometime in 2014. Sigman is a professional baseball player who has played for many baseball teams, one of which is the Arizona Diamondbacks. The couple made their relationship public in 2015 and married soon thereafter in 2016, but the relationship did not last long, as they used the time in mid-2017 to connect.

Mori is also a grandmother. She is perhaps one of the youngest grandmothers in the world. In November 2016 her son, Sergio Mayer, through his relationship with Natália Subtil, a model, gave birth to a daughter, Mila Mayer. This event made Barbara a grandmother at the age of 38.
