Ronald Darby is an American football player who plays in the National Football League (NFL) for the Philadelphia Eagles. The cornerback joined the Philadelphia-based football franchise on August 11, 2017, through an exchange of his previous team, the Buffalo Bills, and traded him for Jordan Matthew in a seventh-round 2019 conditional draft pick.

Darby was born on January 2, 1994, the son of his father Ronald Darby Sr. in Oxon Hill, a suburb of Washington, D.C. Maryland, USA. It was also here that he began to work on his dream of becoming a professional American football player.
Darby attended Potomac High School, where he joined the school team, the Wolverines, and played in various positions such as defense, offense, and special teams. Eventually, he found his roots in defense and then joined the Wolverines’ secondary school. At this young age, he was already familiar with success as he was named Sports Illustrated High School All-American in 2011 and was a USA Today.

In 2012, Darby was in the Under Armour All-American Game of the Year, and while playing as a junior, he was able to make up 3 interceptions and defend 8 pass failures. The more he played with his high school team, the more popular he became. He earned Rivals.com’s recognition as a four-star recruit and was ranked number two cornerback candidate in his class shortly after his 4.37-second 40-yard sprint.
Darby’s college soccer career was no less a success. He came to the state of Florida in 2012, became part of the defense, and scored 18 tackles with seven passes. The season ended with him receiving the ACC Defensive Rookie of the Year and Freshman All-American awards. Darby’s first professional trip was with the Buffalo Bills in the metropolis of Buffalo-Niagara Falls. He was selected by the pro team in a second-round (50th in total) of the NFL 2015 Draft. His first contract was signed on May 19, 2015. It was a four-year contract worth $4.56 million with a $1.58 million signing bonus and $2.17 million guaranteed. Darby made his debut of the season against the Indianapolis Colts and recorded 2 passes, 6 combined tackles, and a tackle that contributed to his team’s 27-14 victory over the Colts. He ended his rookie season with 21 pass shots, 68 combined tackles, 2 interceptions in 15 games with 15 starts. This season he was named AFC Defensive Rookie of the Month for September and Defensive Rookie of the Year by Pro Football Focus. Darby continued playing for the Philadelphia Eagles on August 11, 2017, after the Bills traded him for Jordan Matthews in the draft selection for the third round of the 2018 NFL. Unfortunately, he was eliminated for about six weeks after dislocating his ankle in the second quarter of his first game.
Darby returned in week eleven, in a game against the Dallas Cowboys, and made his first interception with the Eagles. His first season ended with 9 defended passes, 3 interceptions, and 34 tackles. When the Eagles reached Super Bowl LII, which was to determine the NFL champion for the 2017 season, Darby made 2 passes and 4 tackles in a game against the New England Patriots.
