Scottish actor Richard Madden is best known for his Game of Thrones role as Robb Stark, a character whose life ended in a way that should go down in history as one of the most horrific deaths in the history of television, but that’s by the way… Richard has achieved even greater things since the end of his Game of Thrones days. We even hear that he is being considered for the coveted James Bond role in the near future. Nowadays he is best known for his starring role as Sergeant David Budd in the BBC thriller Bodyguard. The series became a surprise hit for the BBC and broke a decade-long record to become the most-watched new BBC drama in the multichannel era.
Richard Madden Bio
Richard Madden was born on June 18, 1986, in Elderslie, Renfrewshire, Scotland, to parents Richard and Patricia Madden (née Mulholland). He grew up in his birthplace together with two sisters: Clara, born in 1983, and Lauren, born in 1988. His mother worked as a classroom assistant while his father is a firefighter.
Young Richard was far from the hunk of rock he is today. He revealed that as a child he was incredibly shy and fat and had a waist of up to 38 inches. Madden said that the kids at his school often made fun of him and he didn’t fit into a pair of jeans. Madden decided to end his pity party and enrolled in the Paisley Arts Centre’s youth theatre program at the age of 11. He decided to do something about his weight when he got a part in a school play in which he had to perform naked.
Richard Madden then attended the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama (RSAMD) in Glasgow, where he graduated in 2007. Madden’s early roles included the leading role of Sebastian Simpkins in the television series Barmy Aunt Boomerang, in which he appeared from 1999 to 2000.
He made his film debut as a young Andy in Complicity (2000). After a few more television roles, Madden earned the role of Robb Stark in HBO’s fantasy drama “Game of Thrones”, which eventually became his break-out role. He left the series after his character was killed in the third season.
While playing in GOT, Madden starred as Prince Kit in the 2015 Disney movie Cinderella, and after GOT, Madden starred in a handful of television movies before he got his next big role in Bodyguard.
Wife, Girlfriend, Who Is He Dating? Is He Gay?
Richard Madden has never been married (at least at the time of writing this article) and is not a gay man. All his relationships, both past, and present have been with the opposite sex. He is currently in a relationship with the English actress and model Ellie Bamber. The couple began their relationship in the summer of 2017, and the news spread when they were spotted making out on a beach in Ibiza.
Their status as a couple became crystal clear to the media when they attended Chanel’s Serpentine Summer Party hand in hand in June 2018. In October 2018, Madden revealed in an interview with The Sun that he “slept with someone” and was “very happy with someone.
Ellie Bamber, an actress since childhood, is also quite famous. She was born on February 2, 1997, in Surrey, England. She is 11 years younger than Madden. Bamber has had an interest in acting since her school days at Hawley Place School and Wellington College. Despite her love of acting, she remained an exception among academics but turned down two drama scholarships to realize her dream of becoming a professional actress.
She started in the theater and had roles in Sir Trevor Nunn’s production of Aspects of Love at the Menier chocolate factory and High Society in The Old Vic, London. In 2012 she tried her hand at television acting and would appear on shows such as A Mother’s Son and The Musketeers. Bamber made her feature film debut in 2014 in the film The Falling and earned a break with her role as India Hastings in Night Active Animals 2016.
Although Bamber’s relationship with Madden seems to be her first to come into the spotlight, Madden has had several high-profile relationships in the past. He was with Doctor Who’s Jenna Coleman from 2012 to 2015, before he was associated with television presenter Laura Whitmore and then model Suki Waterhouse.
