America’s 47th Vice President, Joe Biden, was born on November 20, 1942, the son of Catholic parents Joseph Robinette Biden Sr. and mother Catherine Eugenia Jean Finnegan. The young Biden began his schooling at St. Paul’s Elementary School in Scranton and St. Helena School before moving to the Archmere Academy in Claymont, Delaware.
He received his BA degree from the University of Delaware in 1965, majoring in history and political science, then enrolled at Syracuse University College of Law and received half a scholarship based on financial need, supplemented by additional support. In his typically humorous manner, Joe admitted that he found law school the most boring in the world.
Biden was admitted to the Delaware bar in 1969 and had an illustrious 37 years as a senator representing Delaware. He won his office remarkably at the age of 29 in 1972, before serving two terms as vice president under President Barrack Hussein Obama.

In 1964, during a vacation in the Bahamas, he met Neilia Hunter, and the romance blossomed despite the reservations of Neila’s parents. On August 27, 1966, while still a law student, Biden married Neila Hunter. The union was blessed with three children, Joseph R. Beau Biden III, Robert Hunter, and Naomi Christina.
In 1972, just one month after winning his first Senate race, Biden received a phone call informing him that his wife and college sweetheart Neilia and their 13-month-old daughter Naomi had died in a car accident on their way to buy a Christmas tree. Neilia Biden’s station wagon was hit by a tractor-trailer as she drove out of an intersection.
Beau and Hunter, who were 4 and 3 years old at the time, were also in the car and were seriously injured. Biden was sworn into the Senate in 1973 at the hospital bed of his son Beau.
Joe commuted from his parents’ home in Wilmington, Delaware, to Washington, a four-hour drive, a routine he was to keep up with for over 37 years. After the accident, he suffered emotionally and psychologically and admitted that he had felt pent-up anger and wrath toward God. Political observers were convinced that he would not remain in the Senate for long because of his intense devotion to his children. Biden instructed his helpers to interrupt him in the Senate at any time when his sons called. In honor and in memory of his wife and daughter, Joe Biden did not work on December 18, the anniversary of the accident.
After a long period of healing and devotion to his children, Joe Biden was finally ready to move on, and on June 17, 1977, he married Jill Tracy Jacobs, whom he had met on a blind date arranged by Biden’s brother. Joe says Jill has reawakened his interest in life and politics.
Joe Biden’s Son
Joe’s son, Beau Joe Biden III, was an American lawyer and officer in the Army Judge Advocate General’s Corps but rose to become Attorney General of Delaware. In May 2010, he was admitted to Christiana Hospital in Newark, Delaware, after complaining of headaches, numbness, and paralysis; later he was transferred to Thomas Jefferson University Hospital. However, in August 2013, he was transferred to the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center in Houston and was diagnosed with brain cancer. On May 20, 2015, he was admitted to the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, for the recurrence of brain cancer. There he died 10 days later, on May 30, 2015, at the age of 46 years.
His funeral was attended by then-President Barack Obama and First Lady Michelle Obama, former President Bill Clinton, former Secretary of State and former First Lady Hillary Clinton, former Chief of Staff of the U.S. Army General Ray Odierno, and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell.
Weeks after Beau’s death, his younger brother Hunter was involved in a bitter separation from his wife Kathleen after he was accused of spending a fortune on drugs and sex with prostitutes. Hunter Biden’s name was found among the hacked records of users on the Ashley Madison extramarital affair site. Although Hunter refused to use the site, Kathleen filed for divorce, and after bitter legal battles, they decided to settle the custody and property disputes out of court.
However, while the divorce case was being heard in court, it turned out that Hunter Biden was dating his brother’s grieving widow, Hallie. After news of the relationship became public, the former Vice President and his wife Jill issued a statement in support of the relationship. Hunter and Hallie took the trouble to keep their relationship out of the public eye.
Joe Biden Net Worth
You would think that Joe Biden would have a decent fortune for someone who has served 37 years in the United States Senate and was Vice President for eight years. In June 2014, Bidden called himself the poorest man in Congress, and that was no joke.
He has no significant large investments, no stocks, no bonds, no savings account! He once said that he and his wife Jill were lucky enough to receive a pension from his time as Vice President.
Biden revealed that former President Obama offered to help him financially while his son Beau was struggling with cancer. Biden had decided to sell his house but was dissuaded from doing so by Obama, who offered to help him. Biden owes between $500,001 and $1 million on two mortgages. He also owed between $250,001 and $500,00 for a home equity line of credit.
