Not many players in the league can do as much work for their team as Danny Green does at both ends of the court since the 2017 NBA All-Defensive Second Team member is also a sniper from the three-point line. The 2014 NBA championship winner, who also holds an NCAA title and a string of college records, will want to make similar contributions as part of the Toronto Raptors, which he joined in 2018.

Danny Green Biography (Age)

Danny Green was born as Daniel Richard Green Jr. as the first of three children of Rene’ Darell and Danny Green Sr. on June 22, 1987, in North Babylon, New York. The Green family is a sports-mad and athletic family, as his siblings and cousins also played in college and also made a career out of it.

For his high school education, Green first attended North Babylon High School, where he completed his first year of studies before switching to a private school; St. Mary’s High School in Manhasset, New York. Originally, he had played on both the soccer and basketball teams, but later he began to focus exclusively on the latter, where he became an outstanding performer. In his last year of high school, Green averaged 20 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists, and 4 blocks per game and was considered a four-star recruit.

Danny Green was recruited by the University of North Carolina, which he joined in 2005. In his first year in Tar Heels, he was ranked sixth in the field, averaging 7.5 points, 3.7 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. In his second year, Green still couldn’t get a starting spot because his statistics were down from the previous season and he averaged 5.2 points, 2.8 rebounds, and 1.1 assists per game. In his junior year, Green considered changing schools but did not go through with it as his average score rose to 11.5 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game. After that year, he announced that he would participate in the 2008 draft, but reversed that decision and returned to school for his senior year.

In his final college season, Danny Green finally sealed a starting position and was named team captain as he achieved college career highlights (13.1) and assists (2.7) to help his team win the 2009 NCAA Championship. His accomplishments also earned him the honor of the ACC All-Defensive Team and Third All-ACC Team when he was drafted by the Cleveland Cavaliers with the 46th Overall Selection in the 2009 NBA Draft.

NBA Draft

Danny Green’s college stats were not only very impressive but also unparalleled with any other player at the Atlantic Coast Conference. However, there were doubts that he would make it in the NBA, which is why he was not picked up earlier when the Cleveland Cavaliers picked him up with the 46th overall in the 2009 NBA Draft.

Green only made 20 appearances in his rookie season before the Cavaliers gave him up at the beginning of the 2010 season. He was then signed by the San Antonio Spurs, who dropped him after six days and two games, prompting him to join the Reno Bighorns in the NBA Development League in January 2011. Green spent about three months on the team, scoring an average of 20 points and 7.5 rebounds per game in 16 games, which prompted the Spurs to step in for him again, even though they assigned him to their own Development League subsidiary, the Austin Spurs.

Danny Green experienced a breakout year in the 2011-12 season when the Spurs called him back and made him their starting shooting guard. After an average of 9.1 points and 3.5 rebounds per game, the team signed a three-year contract with him worth $12 million. Since then he has become an integral part of the team, playing in two NBA finals and winning an NBA final in 2014.
