He attended Shiloh Academy, now known as Chicago SDA Academy, an institution owned and run by the Seventh-day Adventist Church. After school, Chi was torn between holding on to the music, not only the music but also singing in the choir or leaving his beloved Chicago. In 1986, Chi moved away from Chicago and settled in Atlanta. He took a job as an accountant with AT&T.
