Violet Moon Howey is the daughter of actor Steve Howey and his ex-wife, Sarah Shahi. Violet’s father, Howey, is known for his roles as Van Montgomery on The WB/CW’s Reba and Kevin Ball on Showtime’s Shameless. Her mother Sarah is also an actress, having played Carmen in the 2005 series The L Word, Kate Reid in the USA Network legal drama Fairly Legal (2011-2012), and Sameena Shorey in the CBS crime series Person of Interest. Shashi is currently starring in the Netflix series “Sex/Life”.
Steve and Shahi’s daughter Violet, although too young, has quite a few stories worth reading, which started before she was born. There are a whole series of memorable chapters that have made headlines, particularly in relation to Violet’s arrival and everything that happened to her parents’ lives during this period.
Take a look back at these moments; read about Violet’s journey as a celebrity child and more in the article below.
Sarah Shahi Birthed Her Daughter, Violet Moon Howey At Home
Violet was born with her twin brother Knox Blue in March 2015 at her parents’ home in Sherman Oaks, California. The first is two hours older than its twin.
She also has an older brother, William Wolf, who was born in July 2009.
Why Did Sarah Shahi Decide To Have Violet And Her Brother At Home?
At the time of her first child, Sarah had said that the reason she chose home birth was that she believed in her body’s natural ability to give birth. She added that by giving birth at home, she wanted to dispel the belief that women do not know how to give birth and that they always need doctors, epidurals, and Pitocin.
But the only thing that really made her and her ex-husband choose natural childbirth was the vision they had after watching the documentary The Business of Birth.
“You have more control during home birth and with hospital births, there is a system in place and we didn’t like the whole system. [Sarah] did not like the idea of being injected with stuff and having a c-section,”
Howey explained to People magazine in December 2020. The couple delivered their babies with the help of a doula, a midwife, and a licensed obstetrician.
However, Sarah’s former father says home births “are not for everyone”. Violet and Knox’s older brother William Woolf was also born in a home water birth.
It Took A While Before Violet’s Mother Could Understand That She Was Having Twins
Just as Sarah was about to find out she was pregnant for the second time, the actress left New York for Los Angeles to pursue acting. When she landed on the West Coast, she had a hunch, took a pregnancy test, and thought about seeing a doctor.
So Knox and Violet’s mother, Sarah, visited the doctor with her eldest son Wolf and her then-husband Steve to confirm the news of the baby. Shahi told us that as soon as the doctor put the transducer on her stomach, he attacked her with a look of shock on his face.
Like he split his eye contact with me,
the Spin City actress said, describing the moment. Afterward, Shahi’s doctor threw a peace sign at her and her ex, which although the latter understood quickly, took the Sex/Life actress some time to realize.
Steve literally got it and jumped so high. I’ve never seen him jump so high. And then he started hyperventilating in the corner,
said Shahi, while talking about the moment she and her ex-spouse found out they had two children. It was only after her doctor uttered the word twins that Sarah finally understood what was happening.
Violet Moon Howey Had A Cord Wrapped Around Her Neck During Her Birth
Although the birth went quickly, Sarah once discovered that Violet had her umbilical cord wrapped around her neck twice. In a podcast, the mother of three said that she had previously feared that something like this would happen.
I was in the tub, I was in the zone. Violet came out. You know, how it is it. But she was blue and not breathing. She had a cord wrapped around her neck.
Steve added that it was tight around her neck and said that was the moment he felt his life flash before his eyes.
Shortly afterward, the couple’s former midwife, Beth, picked her up and began to tell her: “Come, little girl, come, little girl”. Steve said he didn’t do anything, though, and Violet was still unresponsive, being blue all the time.
Then the doctor who was present at the time, who was seeing Knox, spotted Violet with the midwife and immediately started waving her legs. The Texas-born actor said that after that, he and Sarah’s daughter started to change color and screamed her first scream.
The Meaning Behind Violet’s Name
Sarah and Steve’s daughter, seven-year-old Violet, have a little story behind her name. Howey said in December 2020 that while it was a little easier to give their twins a name, he and Shah went through several different names before settling on Moon as Violet’s middle name.
Moon is apparently Shahi’s mother’s maiden name. Apparently, it is the English translation of Sarah’s mother’s name.
Originally, Howey and Shahi were going to name the girl Moon, but they decided it was better as a middle name. The name Violet came about mainly because they liked Ruby and Olive.
Violet Moon Howey Womb Mate Knox Is A Breech Baby
Violet’s parents love home births, as the City On A Hill actress gave birth to all her children in her own home. The former couple had also repeatedly spoken out about home births when they were together. However, in doing so, one of their two babies had a rather unusual arrival; walking in front. And that was their youngest, Knox, Violet’s twin brother.
In April 2015, Sarah took to her Instagram to announce the breech birth, while making it clear that it was definitely not due to a cesarean section.
Breech doesn’t not equal c section! I had a breech delivery at home! Be informed,
tweeted the Rookie alumna. Reportedly, because Violet came out a little early, Knox’s delivery was relatively easy despite his inverted position.
What Is The Ethnicity Of Violet’s Mother, Sarah Shahi?
Violeta’s mother, Sarah Shahi, whose real name is Aahoo Jahansouz, is of Persian descent and a native of Texas. She adopted her stage name Sarah in the second grade after hearing a song.
Her mother was a single-working parent who taught her resilience and a strong work ethic. Violeta’s mother also participated in local beauty pageants at the age of 10. In fact, she is also the winner of Miss Fort Worth 1997.
How Violet And Her Twin Brother Changed Their Actor Parents Lives?
The birth of Violet and Knox changed everything in Steve Howey and Sarah Shahi’s lives. Before the babies were born they were obviously on holiday all the time, but then suddenly Sarah was pregnant and all their energy was devoted to the baby.
But when the former couple welcomed twins Violet Moon and Knox Blue, they felt a little more prepared for what was to come. Shahi once said that she and Howey were “in the trenches together” because they used to establish their routine in the middle of the twins’ infant period.
For his part, Howey added that although at times it was insurmountable, he and Sarah now work very hard to plan training time together.
Violet Moon Howey Parents’ Relationship
Violet’s parents, Howey and Shahi, met when Howey was a guest on an episode of the first Parent Reba in 2004. They married in Las Vegas in February 2009 after an engagement that lasted almost two years.
However, by the end of the 2010s, Sarah and Steve had already divorced. They officially separated in January 2021 after 11 years of marriage.
The actress-mother had filed for divorce a year earlier in May, citing insurmountable differences. They gave 14 April 2020 as the date of separation.
After the divorce, the former couple jointly announced that they were grateful for the past 10 years together and proud of the children they had raised. They added that their priority would remain to raise their children together with love, mutual respect, and friendship as they embark on this new phase of their lives.
Following their divorce, the ‘Shameless’ star and the actress shared joint legal and physical custody of their three children. Neither party paid child support and the ex-spouses kept all their personal belongings, including jewelry, clothing, and furniture.
Why Did They Divorce?
Reportedly, the divorce was due to their work schedules. Howey was busy filming the final season of Shameless, while Shahi was at the same time filming various projects including The Rookie, Persons of Interest, and Sex/Life for Netflix.
In an interview explaining the reason for the divorce, Violet’s father said that although at the beginning they devoted all their time to each other when they had children it was very difficult for the couple.
He also pointed out that both he and Sarah – being working actors – were very tired and when they came back, if there was any energy left, it was for the children, not for each other. As for Shahi, she told Oprah Daily that becoming a mother changed something in her.
She said that something happened to her and her ex-husband when they became parents – they started acting as if the desires they felt before having children were gone. Eventually, they just didn’t admire each other anymore, and the ex-couple realized that things were not like they used to be.
Violet’s Mother Is Now Dating Her Co-Star
After her divorce from Howey, Violet’s mother started dating her co-star from the Netflix series Sex/Life, Adam Demos, in the summer of 2020.
They met on the set of the series, which started filming in August 2020, just a month after her divorce from Howey came to light.
How Rich Is Violet Moon Howey’s Father Steve Howey; What Is His Net Worth?
At six meters and four centimeters tall, Steve Howey is certainly rich, and while he may not be among the wealthiest TV or movie stars, the actor is certainly a millionaire. According to Celebrity Net Worth, Violet’s father’s net worth is estimated at around $2 million.
It is quite clear that the father of three earned most of this fortune working in television, in particular, starring in over 100 episodes each of Reba and Shameless. He reportedly earned $100 000 per episode on Shameless until it ended after 11 seasons (via The Things).
