Alex Smith Bio

Smith was born Alexander Douglas Smith on 7 May 1984 in Bremerton, Washington. He grew up in La Mesa, California, and attended Helix Charter High School, where his father was an executive director.

He is currently the NFL quarterback and plays for the Washington Redskins. Actually, he started playing in his junior and senior year at Helix Charter High School, where he was a starter for the Helix Scotties and eventually led his team to a record-breaking 25-1, including two CIF section championships in San Diego.

He became the first team in the San Diego All-Conference and All-County squads in the CIF system at the time, was named Conference Offensive Player of the Year twice and also won the team MVP for the school twice.

During his time at Helix, Smith broke the school record of six touchdowns in a single game and also had the second-highest graduation rate in San Diego history at the time.

For Alex Smith, football was not just one of the things that people did as an after-school activity in high school, for him it was something much more than that, so he decided to play professionally after high school and made a successful living from it.

After his high school heroics on the field, he played as number 11 for Utah Utes. Smith led the team to victories at the Liberty Bowl 2003 and the Fiesta Bow 2005, and in 2004 he was a finalist in the 2004 Heisman alongside Reggie Bush.

Professional Career

In 2005, the San Francisco 49ers made him number one in the overall 2005 design selection, and Smith signed a six-year contract worth $49.5 million. The contract was for $24 million in guaranteed money.

His career with the 49ers was not very smooth, but it was full of ups and downs. He lost his starting job, had to deal with injuries, was beaten by journeyman J.T. O’Sullivan for the role in training camp in 2008, started a new season behind Shaun Hill in 2009 before he started the last 10 games of the season, and much more.

After starting in 2011 under 3 head coaches, 7 offensive coordinators and 17 wide receivers within 7 seasons with the 49ers, Smith finally made his first playoff appearance under Harbaugh, who took over the coaching position in San Francisco the same year.

By the end of the 2011 season, he had helped lead the 49ers to a 13-3 record in the regular season, including five first-leg wins and a farewell play-off match in the first round of the playoffs. Smith was also the first quarterback in NFL history to score two touchdowns in the last three minutes of a game.

He won the Ed Block Courage Award (an award given annually to the player who has distinguished himself through his commitment to sportsmanship and courage). Smith also won the USA Today All-Joe Team – an award that is usually given to the best players who don’t make it into the Pro Bowl.

In 2013, the 49ers agreed to trade Smith to the Kansas City Chiefs for the Chiefs’ second-round pick in the 2013 NFL Draft and a conditional pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. He remained with the Chief until January 2018, when they traded him to the Washington Redskins in exchange for a third-round selection in the 2018 NFL Draft alongside cornerback Kendall Fuller.

Alex Smith currently has an estimated Net Worth of approximately $60 million.
