Following the attack, Saipov was discovered with a pellet gun and a paintball gun and was shot in the abdomen by a cop while fleeing the scene.
The Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) later claimed responsibility for the attack and Saipov later admitted to attacking in the terrorist group’s name.
He also allegedly left a note in the truck pledging allegiance to ISIS.

In 2019 he was found guilty and sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
