The couple had met through MySpace, as Macklemore revealed in an interview with Telos Studios in 2013. When asked how social media has impacted his career, he said: “I met my girlfriend through MySpace, who I’ve been dating for a long time. So MySpace was a big step in my life!”

Their relationship may look very rosy in the media, but the lovers have not been without their own fair share of the struggles. Shortly after they started dating, Macklemore became a drug addict and even had to go to rehab for oxycontin abuse.

Tricia talked about this phase of their relationship in an interview with ABC News where she said that everyone, including her mother, was against the relationship. Regardless, Tricia saw something in Macklemore that made her stick with the relationship.

“When you fall in love with a drug-addicted man who can’t afford anything, and your mother asks you what the hell you’re doing, there’s a reason why – I knew from the first time I saw him that I thought, ‘He has that potential,'” Tricia told ABC.

“And it was one of those, like, ‘Please, like, don’t, you know, please don’t be pregnant. And I heard tears coming from the bathroom.”

“I thought, ‘Oh my God, I know what these tears mean… It was a quick wake-up call. I sobered up and I got happy again.”

It was his daughter who inspired him to sing “Growing Up (Sloane’s Song)” with Ed Sheeran.
