Todd Bowles is one of the names not to be forgotten in American football. He is not only popular as head coach of the New York Giants of the National Football League, but he also played professionally in the league as a security coach. As a player, he led the Washington Redskins to a stunning victory at the 1987 Super Bowl XXII championship. Todd Robert Bowles was born in Elizabeth, New Jersey on November 18, 1963, to African-American parents and attended Elizabeth High School in his youth. It was here that he started his football career, and after his high school career, he also played college football with the Temple Owls football team at Temple University.

As a player, Todd Bowles played professionally from 1986 to 1993. After the 1986 NFL draft, he signed with the Washington Redskins as an unregistered player. After playing for the Redskins for five seasons, Bowles signed with the San Francisco 49ers in 1991 and finally retired as a player in 1993.

Coaching Career

Soon after his retirement, Todd served as a member of the Green Bay Packers staff from 1995 to 1996. In 1997 he became defensive coordinator at Morehouse College. He then served as Defensive Backs Coach for Grambling State University from 1998 to 1999, New York Jets in 2000, Cleveland Browns from 2001 to 2004, and the Dallas Cowboys from 2005 to 2007.

In 2008 Bowles joined the Miami Dolphins as an assistant head coach and was appointed interim head coach of the Dolphins after four years. He finished the 2011 season with a 2:1 record. Due to his impressive performances, many other NFL teams sought the services of the Bowles. He later signed on with the Philadelphia Eagles as a Secondary Coach and Defensive Coordinator. He left the team after the 2012 season.

Bowles was hired by the Arizona Cardinals as a Defensive Coordinator in January 2013. His efforts in the 2014 season earned him the AP Assistant Coach of the Year Award. He left the Cardinals in 2015, whereupon he signed with the New York Jets for the second time. Following the release of coach Rex Ryan, Bowles was named head coach of the Jets. He agreed to a four-year contract with the team, and in December 2017 Bowles was taken over by the Jets. He also signed a contract extension that would last until 2020.
