Misfortune hit the Ivory Coast football community on Sunday when Moustapha Sylla, a 21-year-old defender for Racing Club d’Abidjan, died from a cardiac arrest.
The Ivorian Football Federation used Facebook to pay homage to Sylla’s death. The message stated,
The President of the Ivorian Football Federation and his executive committee lament to inform you that Moustapha Sylla, a left-back for the Racing Club of Abidjan, died on Sunday, March 5, 2023, after collapsing on the lawn of the Robert Champroux stadium during a match. Despite being rushed to a hospital, the 21-year-old athlete died as a result of his discomfort.

According to the Mirror, Sylla went into cardiac arrest on the field and was rushed to the hospital, but unfortunately died on the way.
Sylla previously played in Mali, joining Racing Club Abidjan last September from Djoliba AC.
It’s worth mentioning that Racing d’Abidjan, the Ivorian club for which Moustapha Sylla played, has recently enjoyed domestic success.
The club was crowned Côte d’Ivoire champion in 2020, a significant achievement in their existence.
They are seventh in the Ivorian first division title after 16 games this season.
