Megan Rapinoe is a US professional football player who currently plays for Seattle Reign FC as a midfielder/winger. Rapinoe is internationally known for her refined playing style and is a member of the US women’s national soccer team. Megan Rapinoe Bio

Megan’s full name is Megan Anna Rapinoe and she was born on July 5, 1985, in Redding, California, where she also grew up. Megan is one of her parents’ six children – Jim and Denise Rapinoe – and was born on July 5, 1985, in Redding, California.

She is a twin sister and her twin sister is named Rachael. Her twin sister is also a football player who previously played for the US U-23 women’s national team and also for the Icelandic Stjarnan women.

Career

Her father actually laid the foundation and love of football for little Megan, who spent most of her early years playing on the various teams her father coached. She attended Foothill High School, but instead of playing football there, Rapinoe chose to play for the Women’s Premier Soccer League’s Elk Grove Pride (now Sacramento Pride).

At her school, she participated in athletic competitions as both a first and second grader. She also played basketball in first, second, and senior grades and was on the honor roll every semester. She was soon named All-American (both first and senior) by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and also by the Parade.

In 1999, Megan participated in the U-14 team of the Olympic Development Program (ODP) of the State of Northern California, and in 2002, she also joined the regional ODP team. In 2014 she was named to the McDonald’s All-American Game.

Until 2005 she played for Elk Grove Pride (now Sacramento Pride). After high school, Megan Rapinoe and her sister Rachael went to the University of Portland, Portland, Oregon, where they played for the Portland Pilots on full scholarships. She was also part of the football team that represented the USA at the 2004 FIFA U-19 Women’s World Cup, where they finished third.

In 2009, she was voted second overall by the Chicago Red Stars in the 2009 WPS Draft to play in the opening season of Women’s Professional Soccer (WPS). She was later named the league’s All-Star team and in 2009 she took part in the WPS All-Star Game against Swedish champions Damallsvenskan, Umeå IK.

In 2011 Megan Rapinoe signed with Australia’s W-League team Sydney FC as a guest player in two of their games. The following year, she and her national teammates – Alex Morgan, Stephanie Cox, Hope Solo, and Sydney Leroux – played with the Seattle Sounders Women between camps with the national team as they prepared for the 2012 Summer Olympics.

She spent six months with the French national team Olympique Lyonnais, which lasted from 2013-14, and after her time with Lyonnais ended she signed with Seattle Reign FC, where she has remained to this day.

In a 2012 interview with Out magazine, Rapinoe revealed that she is a lesbian and revealed that she has been in a relationship with Australian footballer Sarah Walsh since 2009. The following year, she quit after five years of the relationship.

After the breakup, Megan went out with singer and songwriter Sera Cahoone. The duo announced their engagement in August 2015, and in January 2017 Megan Rapinoe announced that her wedding plans had been put on hold.

Later in 2017, Seattle Storm player Sue Bird revealed on ESPNW that she was gay and that Megan Rapinoe was her girlfriend. Rapinoe later confirmed that they had been together since fall 2016.
