Kevin Gates was born on 5 February 1986 as Kevin Jerome Gilyard. He has a mixture of Puerto Rican and Black American descent. His mother’s name is Martha Gates (née Green). At the age of 13, Kevin was first sent to prison for driving dangerously on the road (this form of driving is similar to that of criminals). According to him, his time in prison made him more thoughtful, and he even earned a master’s degree in psychology from prison and was released before the end of his term for his good behavior.
