Jimbo Fisher was an American college football player who played as a quarterback between 1985 and 1988, before moving to college football coaching. He is currently the head coach of Texas A&M and has worked with several teams in the past, including Florida State, LSU, and Cincinnati. With more than 3 decades of coaching experience, Fisher has achieved some significant successes throughout his career. Below are more facts about his professional and personal life.

Jimbo Fisher Bio

More popular than Jimbo Fisher, he was born John James “Jimbo” Fisher Jr. on October 9, 1965, in Clarksburg, West Virginia. While his father, John James Fisher Sr., worked in the coal mines for many years and did not only own a farm, his mother, Gloria Fisher, was a teacher for most of her life. His father died in 1994 after suffering from a lung disease after working as a miner.

Bryan Fisher, who grew up alongside his brother Jimbo, began playing soccer as a child. One of the things that set him apart from most others was the tenacity he brought to the sport, which was a testament to how he was raised.

He received his education at North View Junior High School and later moved to Liberty High School. After graduation, he moved to Salem College, now known as Salem International University in West Virginia. During his studies, he played as a quarterback for the school team. However, he later moved to Samford University where he continued to play.

After a very good college career, he played for the Chicago Bruisers of the Arena Football League in 1988. After his first season, Fisher decided to move into coaching and returned to Samford where he worked as a certified assistant coach under Terry Bowden. In 1992 he left Samford and went to Auburn University, where Bowden took a coaching job. They worked together until 1998 when Terry Bowden resigned.

He spent 1999 at the University of Cincinnati, where he worked as a quarterback coach and offensive coordinator, before moving to Louisiana State University, where he was to stay from 2000 to 2006. His work there helped develop players like Rohan Davey and JaMarcus Russell.

Fisher’s next move was to Florida State University, where he received a position as offensive coordinator and quarterback coach in 2007. Two seasons later, he was appointed head coach of the university team. He led the team to the BCS national championship in 2013, with 3 ACC conference championships and 4 bowling wins, among others.

Contract Details and Salary

After spending seven years with the State of Florida, Jimbo moved to Texas A&M, where he remains to this day. The most significant aspect of the transfer is that he was awarded a 10-year contract worth $75 million. According to him, the move to Texas was due in part to the facilities and his association with the college’s athletic director, Scott Woodward.

Since the entire $75 million is fully guaranteed, his contract is the richest guarantee ever given to a college soccer coach. This means that he is allowed to spend the entire ten years with the college. The reason for this is that if he ever gets fired, he will still receive his full salary and can leave for free if he gets something better.

He is expected to take home an average salary of $7.5 million per year based on the value of his contract. His base salary is $500,000 per year, while his other income is $7 million.

Wife or Girlfriend, Is He Divorced?

Although he has enjoyed what many will describe as a successful coaching career, not too many would say the same about his married life. He married Candi Fisher, but after 22 years of living together, the relationship ended in divorce in 2015.

Before the marriage came to an unhappy end, Jimbo and Candi Fisher had two sons, Trey and Ethan. Trey now plays soccer at the Christian school in Tallahassee, North Florida, while Ethan is expected to go to College Station. He was born with a genetic disorder, Fanconi anemia, which he can cope with.
