The Venezuelan professional baseball player was born as Gleyber David Torres Castro on 13 December 1996 in Caracas, Venezuela. When he entered the 2017 season, which he started with the Trenton Thunders of the Class AA Eastern League, Baseball America again ranked him fifth in the most promising players of the baseball season. This inspired his promotion to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders in the Class AAA International League. Unfortunately, he soon suffered an injury that required reconstruction of the ulnar collateral ligament; this kept him away from the games for the rest of 2017.
But then Gleyber Torres would not crawl into oblivion. He came back in 2018 with full force, and there is widespread agreement that this season is his big chance. Among other things, he has been named the best shortstop player by MLB.com. It was only natural that the Yankees promoted Torres to the big leagues.
