For some, fame comes early, for others much later in life. For Emmy Rossum, fame came early, when she turned 18. She appeared in no less than ten films and was nominated for a Golden Globe in 2004 for her role as Christine Daaé in the film The Phantom of the Opera.

Emmy Rossum (Age)

The talented actress was born on September 12, 1986, in New York City as Emmanuelle Grey Rossum, the daughter of a mother of Russian Jewish descent and a father of English-Dutch descent. Emmy was raised alone by her mother, Cheryl Rossum (a corporate photographer), and she has only seen her father a few times. Rossum considers herself a Jew.

She loved art from an early age and received much support from her mother. At the age of seven, Emmy got an audition at the Metropolitan Opera, which she passed, and with it began her acting career, because in the next few months she appeared in no less than 20 operas in six different languages. Soon she stopped performing at the opera because she became too tall to fit in as a child actress. At the age of 15, Emmy earned a high school diploma online from Stanford University and later enrolled full-time at Columbia University, where she studied art history and French.

Rossum made her television debut in 1997 in the leading role of Abigail Williams in the sensational soap opera As the World Turns. She was a guest actress in Snoops and then starred in the ABC television movie The Audrey Hepburn Story as Audrey Hepburn. She made her first film debut in 2000 at the age of 13, playing Deladis Slocumb in Songcatcher. Songcatcher, which won the Jury’s Special Prize for Outstanding Ensemble Performance, also earned Rossum a nomination for the Independent Spirit Award for Best Debut Performance. This film also gave her the opportunity to sing a duet with country music star Dolly Parton.

Rossum soon ventured into music and it was a great success. Her debut album, entitled Inside Out, was released on October 23, 2007, and made it into the U.S. charts at 199. In December of the same year, she released three more songs (Christmas songs) on the EP Carol of the Bells. In 2013, under Warner Bros., Rossum released the album Sentimental Journey, which did better than her first album and reached a top spot in the U.S. charts at 92.
