Chance The rapper has openly expressed his grief over the death of his aunt. Kimberly Bennett, the rapper’s aunt from Chicago, died on Sunday (May 7) after a fight with aggressive breast cancer.
“My Aunty Kim passed away early Sunday morning from breast cancer. “She was a fighter who wanted me to share this,” Chance wrote on Twitter, referring to a video of his aunt sharing her story.
On an upcoming episode of Peace of Mind with Taraji dubbed “Why Black Men Don’t Cry with Chance the Rapper,” the 28-year-old star spoke with hosts Taraji P. Henson and Tracie Jade about his mental health, breaking generational curses, and the pressure that Black men experience in today’s society. Chances are shared:

There are surely many cases where individuals we knew were written off as crazy or tweaking, when in fact they were suffering from a chronic mental health issue. “I think as a society, we’re all starting to understand, ‘Oh, okay, wellness is more than just our physical health.'”
“I battle with PTSD, I watched my friend slain in front of me when I was 19, and I’ve seen others I didn’t know be killed too. You become numb to it as if someone else perished only a week ago, but it lingers, you know what I mean? And you don’t realize it until later, as if I have long-term ramifications.
