Scott Richard Weiland, popularly known as Scott Weiland, is one of the few successful singers and songwriters whose legacy lives on after a long time.

The American musician and Grammy award winner Scott is best known as the lead singer of the Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver. He remains one of America’s most prominent musicians in the music scene.

Scott was born on October 27, 1967, at Kaiser Hospital in San Jose, California, and spent his early years in California, where he had his first band, Mighty Joe Young, in high school. Scott’s mother’s name is Sharon, née Williams, while his father’s name is Kent Kline, but he grew up with his stepfather David Weiland, who legally adopted him at the age of 5, hence his last name: Weiland.

After school and college, Scott turned to music full-time and worked as a paste-up artist for a legal newspaper popularly known as the Los Angeles Daily Journal. Scott’s rise to fame, however, began when he met Robert DeLeo – an American bassist, songwriter, and background singer. His collaboration with the bassist eventually led to the development of his Mighty Joe Young into what is now known as Stone Temple Pilots (STP). This happened in 1987, and by 1992 the band had released its debut album Core with four hits. Two years later they released their second album Purple, which helped spread the word about them and sold more than six million copies. The group disbanded in 2003 after releasing several more albums, only to reunite in 2008.

While STP continued to flourish, Scott also worked on his solo albums. The first was 12 Bar Blues, released in 1998, followed by his second, “Happy” in Galoshes, which was released on November 25th, 2008. His cover album “A Compilation of Scott Weiland Cover Songs” was released on August 30th, 2011. Another album that the singer released before his death in 2015 includes The Most Wonderful Time of the Year, released on October 4, 2011, and Blaster – his debut album with The Wildabouts, released on March 31, 2015.

While he was advancing his music career, the lead singer was also involved in some companies that helped him earn good money. He owned a record label, Softdrive Records, which he used to sign aspiring singers. He also signed a publishing contract with Bug Music and on January 21, 2009, he announced his clothing store Weiland for English Laundry. All these and many other activities that he carried out himself helped him to gain more wealth. At the time of his death in 2015, his net worth was $10 million. The music star acquired properties throughout the USA, including Los Angeles, California. He bought the house in 2007 for $2.1 million and then sold it for $2.25 million. A year later, the singer bought his new house in Toluca Lake, where he lived with his wife Jamie and children.

Scott Weiland Dead: Cause of Death

Scott died on December 3, 2015, reportedly found dead in his Bloomington coach. His death came as a great shock to his bandmates and millions of his fans.

Although Scott announced on his official Facebook page that he had died in his sleep and that his family’s privacy was respected, his former STP band members announced one day after his death that he had been a heroin addict for several years but had quite a few years after he was in rehab. The police, who searched Scott’s tour bus, also announced that they had found some drug substances. A few weeks later, the medical examiner published an official report on Weiland’s cause of death. According to the report, the singer died from a lethal mixture of cocaine, ethanol, and methylenedioxyamphetamine (MDA). He was buried in Hollywood Forever Cemetery on December 11, 2015.

Weiland had been convicted of buying crack cocaine in 1995 and was sentenced to one-year probation. In 2001, the singer also revealed that he had been diagnosed with manic depression. He also confessed that he began using cocaine and alcohol as a teenager when he was performing with his first band, Mighty Joe Young.

The love story of the late STP lead singer was filled with many ups and downs. The deceased singer was married three times and divorced twice. His first marriage was with Janina Castaneda on September 17, 1994, but they lived together as a couple for about 6 years before they settled for a divorce in 2000. In the same year, Scott met Mary Forsberg, and both married but were divorced in 2007 after having two children – Noah (born 2000) and Lucy (born 2002).

Scott Weiland finally teamed up with Jamie Wachtel, a photographer he met in 2011 while shooting his music hit “I’ll Be Home for Christmas”. The two of them were together for about two years before they decided to make the alliance for life at their home in Los Angeles on June 22, 2013.

In her reaction to her husband’s death in 2015, Jamie confirmed that her husband had struggled with drug addiction and drug abuse for a long time. She said she did not discover the effects of her husband’s bipolar disorder until shortly after their marriage in 2013. She also admitted that his mental health usually leads to some unpredictable behavior, such as whipping fans and fighting with reporters.
