His father was born on March 22, 1937, in Tamworth, New South Wales. He is a graduate of Tamworth High School, where he participated in Australian championships and played field hockey as a teenager. At the age of 17, Richard traveled to Africa, where he trained with the Kenyan field hockey team, testing their potential for the Olympic Games. During his stay in the country, his paths crossed with the prominent Kenyan singer-songwriter Roger Whittaker in Nairobi, who inspired him to get a guitar and pursue a music career.

Danielle’s father, who was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia (2007), is known for his recordings of children’s music and the establishment of the Australian Children’s Music Foundation in 2002. He made his way into show business in 1962 and has remained active ever since. He currently lives in Darlinghurst.
