Two years ago at Christmas, a burglar gave the residents of Windsor Castle quite a scare. Armed with a crossbow, Jaswant Singh Chail attempted to scale the walls of the British royal family’s main residence. His goal: the death of the then reigning monarch Queen Elizabeth II (✝96). Jaswant has now pleaded guilty to three charges against him in court!

As Der Spiegel reported, the 21-year-old intended “to hurt or frighten Her Majesty”. Jaswant also admitted in court that he had made death threats and possessed an assault weapon. He had previously been accused of high treason.

As Gyles Brandreth (74) revealed in his new book “Elizabeth: An Intimate Portrait”, the queen was having breakfast at the time of the attempted assassination. When she found out about it later, she reacted with humor: “Yes, that really would have put a damper on Christmas, wouldn’t it?”
