Amancio Amaro has made a big name for himself in the world of football over the course of his long career. Even though the Spaniard ended his active career on the pitch in the 1970s many fans in his country still consider him the most technically gifted footballer of all time. After his career ended he worked as a coach among other things. Now the admirers of the sports legend have to say goodbye: Amancio died at the age of 83.
On the official website of the Real Madrid football club, the members now mourn the ex-athlete in a statement. “Real Madrid CF the President and the Board of Directors deeply regret the death of Amancio Amaro Honorary President of Real Madrid and one of the great legends of our club and world football,” the statement said.
Amancio not only leaves behind numerous fans and ex-colleagues – his family also mourns him. “Real Madrid would like to express its condolences and affection to his wife Consuelo his children Oscar Belen Amancio Patricia Marcos and Claudia his brother Juan Carlos his grandchildren and all his relative’s colleagues and loved ones,” the club said.
