Alec Baldwin (64) seems to be able to breathe a sigh of relief. In 2021, there was a terrible tragedy on the set of the western film “Rust”: During a shooting rehearsal, a shot was fired from a prop gun, fatally injuring camerawoman Halyna Hutchins ( 42 ). In January, prosecutors and the deceased’s family sued the actor for involuntary manslaughter. It has now been announced that Alec will no longer face a five-year sentence.

As Fox News has now reported, prosecutors have now dropped the original charge of using a firearm against the 64-year-old. “In order to avoid further procedural distractions by Mr. Baldwin and his attorneys, the District Attorney and the Special Attorney have removed the firearm attachment from the involuntary manslaughter charge in connection with the death of Halyna Hutchins on the set of ‘Rust,'” a spokesman said to the news channel. Now that the charge is manslaughter, Alec faces a maximum sentence of 18 months behind bars.

It was recently reported that Halyna’s husband should also be called to the witness stand. The widower had already filed a civil lawsuit against Alec last year. In the end, however, the two parties were able to agree on a settlement.
