One of the salient facts about Linda Hamilton is that she is a twin. She is the second half of twin daughters born to her mother, Barbara K. Holt, along with an older sister and a younger brother. Linda Hamilton lost her doctor-father, Carroll Stanford Hamilton, in a car accident when she was five years old. She often describes her childhood as boring, spending her time reading books. No one knows exactly how the acting aroused Hamilton’s interest, perhaps it was an attempt to escape the boring early life she had. A young Linda studied acting as a major at Washington College but left school after one of her professors told her that she lacked the talent to make a living as an actress. As a woman willing to bet on herself, she moved to New York, took acting lessons, and studied with director Lee Strasberg.

The lessons with Lee Strasberg paid off; in January 1981 she received her first leading role on television in the role of Lisa Rogers in Secrets of Midland Heights. She made her first feature film in TAG: The Assassination Game. Her performance in the film drew the attention of critics and studios to her talents.

Due to the critical acclaim for her role in TAG, she was offered a starring role in Children of the Corri, a Stephen King adaptation, and although the film was severely criticized by the critics, it brought in $14 million at the box office. After “Children of the Corri”, Hamilton was offered one of the roles that would determine her career in 1984, she was cast as Sarah Connor in “The Terminator”. With this, she fully established herself as a film star and gave her metaphorical middle finger to her professor at Washington College, who had said she had no talent.

Usually, when an actor has success in feature films, they stick to making more feature films to milk the success of their previous hit, but that wasn’t Linda. She returned to the medium that had put her in the spotlight immediately after The Terminator and returned to the television show Beauty and the Beast alongside Ron Perlman. Fortunately, the show was not a dud, and her performances on the show earned her an Emmy nomination.

Linda Hamilton became the female action star of the late 80s and early 90s, so to speak, as she appeared in the sequel to The Terminator. It was a status that suited the sacrifice she made during the shooting of this film when she suffered permanent hearing loss in one ear.

In the early stages of her career, she appeared alongside actors such as Michael Caine and Michael Biehn, Charlie Sheen, and Pierce Brosnan.

To date, she has appeared in over 20 films and 20 television shows. Her recent works include recurring roles in Chuck as Mary Bartowski and as Pilar McCawley in Defiance. She will soon return to the Terminator franchise to resume her role as Sarah Connor alongside Arnold Schwarzenegger.

Apart from acting, Linda Hamilton has also been a powerful voice in politics. She is a registered Democrat, although she voted for Arnold, a Republican, in the 2003 California Governor election.

Throughout her career, Linda Hamilton has been nominated for and won several awards. She has also been named in several lists, including PEOPLE Magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful People in the World in 1990.
