Lily Tomlin is an American comedienne, singer, producer, writer, and acting veteran whose career in the entertainment industry dates back to the 1960s. She has made several film and television appearances, some of which have earned her numerous awards and nominations.
Tomlin is widely known for her role as Margo Sperling in The Late Show (1977), which won her the Best Actress award. The actress was born on September 1, 1939, in Detroit, Michigan, as Mary Jean “Lily” Tomlin, the daughter of her parents Lillie Mae (January 14, 1914 – July 12, 2005) and Guy Tomlin (March 3, 1913 – October 24, 1970), who are Southern Baptists. Her mother was a housewife and nurse’s aide, while her father, Guy, was a factory worker.
Tomlin has a younger brother named Richard Tomlin, and her family emigrated from Paducah, Kentucky, to Detriot during the Great Depression.
