Chris Herro is the father of Miami Heats’ manager Tyler Herro. Tyler’s father is also a former basketball player, although he never reached the top level.

However, Chris has played an important role in his son Tyler’s development on the court. In fact, Tyler has also said that his father is his most important influence.

Before his injury, Chris had received offers from St. Louis and Florida State. However, things changed after he was injured during his senior year of high school.

In an interview, he talked about how he took this big blow to his career.

“Honestly, it took me a while to get over it,”

Tyler’s father revealed. He added that it was hard for him to swallow because he was passionate about the game. Chris also said that it shocked his wife Jen. He remembered how people used to look at him when he used to go to the gym because he was quite a good basketball player.

Chris Married His Wife Jennifer Herro 

As mentioned, Chris is married to Jennifer (Jen). They married in 1999. Both Chris and Jenna Herro were athletes in college. The couple currently live in Greenfield, Wisconsin.

They welcomed their first son, Tyler, in January 2000. They have two more children, Austin and Miles, who are members of the NBA’s second all-rookie team. Both were born after Tyler.

Although Jenna and Chris have been together since their marriage, Jenna admits that she has argued with her husband on several occasions. However, most of this has been in relation to their athlete son.

She once said that they (her husband and son) have always had a love-hate relationship. She admitted that she and Chris argued all the time because she thought he was “too, too hard on Tyler”.

Chris told his son that he had to play every game as if it was his last.

He also tried to make his son believe that he was the best player on the court when he was on it. He advised his first child not to let anyone say anything else to him. Chris believes that his son should go to the gym and work there until he is the best player.

He Says His Son Tyler Herro Learned Arrogance From Him 

Even when he was a rookie for the Miami Heat, Tyler was more confident than the average player.

But there is someone who takes credit for the Miami Heat’s No 14’s strong belief in himself. In a September 2019 conversation with the Miami Herald, Tyler and his father, Chris, provided insight into how that confidence developed.

Tyler is no stranger to criticism from fans and players. He also likes to make statements.

Chris admits that he has inspired his son’s self-confidence and says that he has helped his son to know the difference between arrogance and hubris.

“I like to say it comes from me,” says the former high school basketball player. He revealed how he taught Tyler the difference between arrogance and conceit as a child. He allowed his son to have a certain amount of arrogance so that he could play basketball at a higher level. Chris believes that without it, no one could succeed on the court. He also stated that people don’t understand the difference.

Chris’ Son Tyler Has No Problem With His Father Going Hard On Him

Although Chris and Tyler have a strict father-son approach, the latter says there are no regrets or hard feelings about the methods used.

“It was hard,” says the 6-foot-5 guard.

It was, however, exactly what he needed to hear, he explained. Tyler added that he has several people telling him things he wants to hear, but his father Chris is telling him things he probably doesn’t want to hear.

As early as October 2020, it was reported that Tyler became irritated with his father after he raised concerns about his interactions with new teammate Jimmy Butler.
