Sterling K Brown has been in the acting business since 2001 but is primarily known for his role in the first season of the thriller-anthology television series The People v. O. J. He was born on 5 April 1976 in St. Louis, Missouri, to Sterling Brown Jr., who died in 1986 when the young Sterling was barely 10 years old, and his mother, Aralean Banks Brown
He grew up with four siblings, two sisters and two brothers, Robert and Armand Brown. When he grew up Sterling was called Kelby, but when he was 16 years old he changed his name and preferred to be called Sterling instead. He further explained how this change came about by saying that his mother told him that he made the decision when he was much younger, simply because Sterling has eight letters and Kelby has five. But apparently for the then younger Kelby, a name change meant that he was no longer a child but an adult.
Sterling K. Brown grew up in a Christian home, received his early education at Mary Institute & St. Louis Country Day School, and earned a bachelor’s degree in art from Stanford University in 1998. He also earned his master’s degree in fine arts from the Tisch School of the Arts.
After many years of honing his skills at school, Sterling K. Brown began performing directly in the theater with various roles in the local theater.
