Nick was born on 22 March 1995 in Seattle, Washington, USA, as Nicholas John Robinson of Michael Robinson and Denise Podnar as the eldest of five siblings. He also has two older half-siblings from his father’s previous marriage. When he was nine years old, his parents recognized that he had a unique talent for the theater and had him join a theater group for neighborhood children called Broadway Boun. He graduated from Campbell Hall School in 2013. Nick was accepted into New York University in 2013 shortly after graduating high school. However, he decided to postpone his first year at New York University to work on Melissa & Joey.

At the age of 11, Nick appeared in a theatrical adaptation of the novel A Christmas Carol written by Charles Dickens. After his impressive performances, a friend of the family, who was also present, suggested to his parents that Nick should meet the legendary Hollywood talent scout Matt Casella. If there was anyone who could make a judgment about Nick’s abilities, it was Matt. He has an impressive track record of discovering talent and has identified which new kid on the block had the qualities needed to succeed in Hollywood in the long run.

He recommended him to several agencies, and eventually, Nick signed with The Savage Agency in Los Angeles. His signing with the agency coincided with the Writers Guild of America strike of 2007-2008, and as a result, he had to return to Washington with his parents, where he continued to perform in the DC area. In 2009 he auditioned for a television show and was asked to play the role of Ryder Scanlon in the ABC Family sitcom “Melissa & Joey”. In 2011 he began shooting the original Disney Channel film Frenemies, for which he was cast with Disney stars Zendaya and Bella Thorne. In 2012 he was cast in the leading role in the film The Kings of Summer. For the third season of HBO’s Boardwalk Empire, he was Rowland Smith, a young thief who stole Nucky Thompson’s underground liquor shipments. He was cast in Jurassic World, the fourth episode of the Jurassic Park franchise, which was finally released in 2015.
In 2013, Nick Robinson won nominations for the film The Kings of Summer in the category Best Performance by a Teenager in a Leading or Supporting Role. He played the character of Ben Parish in the 2016 film 5th Wave, based on the novel of the same name. He played the lead role in the film Being Charlie, which was shown for the first time in “The Toronto International Film Festival 2015” and was released commercially in May of next year.
