Nelson Agholor was born on May 24, 1993, in Lagos, Nigeria, the fourth of five children of Caroline and Felix Agholor. His father Felix was a soccer player in Nigeria and moved with his family to the United States when Nelson was just five years old. Nelson has four siblings – two brothers and two sisters. His full name is Nelson Efamehule Agholor. When the Agholors moved to the United States, they lived in a three-room house in Florida, which meant that Nelson shared a room with his older brothers.
He attended Berkeley Preparatory School in Tampa, Florida. At Berkeley, Nelson played as a running back, wide receiver, and also as a defensive back for the Berkeley Buccaneers. He was selected for college and Agholor chose the University of Southern California in January 2012. Other institutions interested in him included Oklahoma, Alabama, Notre Dame, Florida, and Florida State.

Upon arrival at USC in 2012, Nelson played 13 games that year, scoring 19 receptions for 340 yards and 2 touchdowns as a reserve wide receiver. In 2013 he became the starter in all 14 games of the year – he recorded 56 receptions for 918 yards and six touchdowns. 2014 was an even better year with 104 receptions for 1,313 yards and 12 touchdowns. After that year he decided to participate in the NFL Draft 2015.
Agholor was selected in the first round with the 20th overall selection by the Philadelphia Eagles during the NFL Draft 2015. The contract he later signed with the site in May 2015 was worth approximately $9.4 million with a signing bonus of $5.1 million.
