Meet Melia McEnery: Some Untold Facts About Eric Clapton’s Wife

Melia McEnery is the owner of several non-profit and social organisations. She is best known as the wife of English rock and blues guitarist, singer and songwriter Eric Clapton. People consider McInerney’s husband, Clapton, to be one of the most important and influential guitarists of all time.

He is ranked second in Rolling Stone magazine’s list of the 100 greatest guitarists of all time and fourth in Gibson’s list of the 50 greatest guitarists of all time. He was also ranked fifth in Time magazine’s “10 Best Electric Guitar Players” in 2009. McInerney and Eric have been together since the late 1990s and have three children.

Melia McEnery Early Life; Who Are Her Parents?  

Melanie McEnery, the wife of an 18-time Grammy Award winner, was born on 1 February 1976. The 46-year-old redhead is from Columbus, Ohio.

She is one of six children of her parents. Her father is of English-Scottish descent and her mother is of Korean-Irish descent.

She is Walter McEnery from Bonita Springs, Fla. Her father is said to have been a builder and her mother a homemaker. McEnery, an American, apparently attended Bishop Watterson High School. She also reportedly has a degree in art.

After college, she moved to California and worked in the design industry for two years. She reportedly worked as a graphic designer and also worked briefly for her father’s contract company. After a while, she got an assistant job at Giorgio Armani to further her career.

In the meantime, she also worked as an event organiser. Today, McHenry is a social worker and philanthropist. Currently, the British singer’s wife works as a Senior Clinical Counsellor at Crossroads Centre Antigua. This organisation helps people with both drug and alcohol problems.

Melia McEnery And Her Husband Eric Clapton’s Wedding  

McInerney married Eric Clapton, lead singer of Tears In Heaven, in January 2002 at St Mary Magdalene Church in Clapton’s hometown of Ripley. Melia, who was 25 at the time, married the Brit Award winner in a private New Year’s Eve ceremony.

None of the guests at the wedding knew that it was McInerney and Clapton’s wedding ceremony.

In fact, the couple had originally invited people to attend the christening of their daughter Sophie Rose at St Mary Magdalene Chapel in Ridley, England.

Just after the guests thought they had seen the end of the ceremony, the singer and his partner Cocaine announced that they would get married at the same moment.

Melia Has Three Daughters With Eric Clapton

Together Mr and Mrs Clapton are the parents of three children, who are daughters: Julie Rose (born 13 June 2001), Ella May (born 14 January 2003) and Sophie Belle (born 1 February 2005).

In addition to the three children with Melia, Clapton has one daughter, Ruth, from a previous relationship with record label manager Yvonne Kelly.

Clapton actually had an affair with Kelly; at the time, Eric was the husband of model Pattie Boyd. He also had another child, a son named Connor from another relationship with Italian model Loria Del Santo.

However, the boy tragically lost his life in March 1991, falling through an open bedroom window on the 53rd floor of a Manhattan apartment building. This accident later inspired the hit Tears In Heaven by Melly’s husband.

Through her husband, Melia is also the stepmother of Isaac Eric Owen Bartlett. He is the son of Clapton’s eldest daughter Ruth and her husband Dean Bartlett.

Where Did Melia McEnery Meet Eric Clapton? 

McInerney met Clapton in 1999. At the time she was working as an administrative assistant in Los Angeles. McInerney had just left Ohio with a high school friend to try her luck in Tinseltown. The Columbus-born singer met Eric at a party thrown for the Surrey-born artist after the performance.

Although they broke up after a year of dating, the couple soon patched things up. After starting their relationship in 1999, they briefly separated in 2000, but quickly reconciled and had their first daughter, Julia Rouza, in June 2001. McEnery Used To Date Another Guy 

Before entering into a relationship with I Shot The Sheriff singer Clapton, Melly dated someone else. His name was Chris Losinski. Losinski was allegedly a café worker. Both Melia and Losinski were in long-term relationships.

At that time she was studying to be a graphic artist. She and Chris had been together since high school.

However, the former fell in love with Clapton after meeting him in 1999. Afterwards, Clapton asked McEnery to marry him on Father’s Day.

Referring to Melie leaving him for the English singer, Losinski said,

“The thought of what went on behind my back eats away at me like cancer. I feel so stupid for not realizing it. But I honestly thought she was the girl I would spend my whole life with. We’d even decided on names for our children.”

Losinski said that McEnery leaving him to be with Clapton left him with the bell-bottom blues. Melia’s ex-boyfriend claimed that Clapton constantly called the couple’s shared house to arrange love affairs.
