Marc Anthony Thompson is essentially known for three things. First, as the founder of the music collective Chocolate Genius, alternatively known as Chocolate Genius Inc. Second, as a talented singer and songwriter who became famous for incorporating the modern form of R&B, folk, and jazz into his work, and finally as the father of multi-talented Hollywood actress Tess Thompson.

While it is true that Marc is not always in the limelight like his famous daughter, the singer was one of the classes that made waves in the music industry in the mid-1980s. Marc Anthony Thompson – Bio

Marc Anthony Thompson is a singer and guitarist from Panama, a country in Central America. Despite his involvement in the highly competitive music industry, much about Thompson is still unknown. His birthday, his month, and the year of his birth are still a mystery. However, reliable sources report that he is of Afro-Panamanian descent and that he grew up in California.

As for his family background, Marc is the son of popular musician and movie actor Bobby Ramos, but it is not clear whether he is an only child. However, the names of the institutions where he graduated are not readily available.


Not much is known about the singer’s family and her plans, except for Tess, who is already a successful actress. Tess’s mother is of Euro-Mexican descent and was also part of her life when she was growing up. According to reports, March and Tess’s mother ended their marital relationship when the actress was still young. After the divorce, Tess moved to another city with her mother and older sister.

Not much is known about Marc Anthony Thompson’s early life, but his musical career is said to have begun in New York, where he moved from his hometown of California. The musician released his two solo albums Marc Anthony Thompson and Watts & Paris in 1984 and 1989, respectively, which were distributed by Warners Bros Records and Reprise Records. This was followed by the birth of Chocolate Genius, which later became a full-fledged recording project.

Shortly after Chocolate Genius was founded, Marc Anthony Thompson was joined by a number of instrumentalists with whom he recorded the albums Black Music (1998) and Godmusic (2001). Their names include guitarist Chris Whitley, Ribot, Martin & Wood, keyboardist John Medeski, cellist Jane Scarpantoni, bassist Chris Wood, Vernon Reid, and avant-garde music group The Lounge Lizards.

The musician’s next album with Chocolate Genius Inc. was Black Yankee Rock, released in 2005 on Commotion Records. Their fourth album, entitled Swansongs, was released in 2010, followed by their fifth, Truth vs. Beauty (2016).

Black Yankee Rock is said to have produced a number of New York’s elite musicians including Oren Bloedow, Marc Ribot, Yuka Honda, Abe Laboriel Jr., Van Dyke Parks, David Stone, Me’Shell Ndegeocello, Glenn Patscha, and others.

Sometime in 2006, Marc Anthony Thompson toured with vocalist Bruce Springsteen and the Seeger Sessions Band. While the tour of Bruce Springsteen and the Seeger Sessions Band lasted, he provided the backing vocals, played acoustic guitar, and also shared the lead vocals on notable songs such as When The Saints Go Marching In.

Marc Anthony Thompson received his first major award (an Obie Award) in 1997 for his incredible sound design in the American film adaptation A Huey P. Newton Story.
