Len Goodman: Dancing With The Stars Judge Dies At 78 from Bone Cancer: Len Goodman the former head judge of Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing With The Stars passed away on April 22 2023 at the age of 78. The news of his death due to bone cancer left his fans and loved ones heartbroken.

Len Goodman was a ballroom dancer and teacher from England. People also knew him by the name Gordon Leonard Goodman. He judged dance competitions. His exceptional contributions to the world of dance have earned him a special place in the hearts of many.

Goodman was born on April 25 1944 in Bethnal Green East London. He grew up in a family of costermongers and had to help his grandfather sell fruits and vegetables.

At the age of six, his family moved to Blackfen and he attended Westwood Secondary Modern School. Goodman began dancing at the age of 19 on his doctor’s recommendation to treat his foot injury.

After winning the British Championships in Blackpool he turned professional and won several more events. Goodman eventually retired from dancing and became a dance teacher and competition assessor.

Goodman’s Legacy

Goodman was a popular figure in the dance industry known for his warm and witty personality. He served as the chief judge on Strictly Come Dancing from 2004 to 2016 and on Dancing With The Stars from 2005 to 2022.

On April 22 2023 Len Goodman passed away in a hospice in Royal Tunbridge Wells. He had been battling bone cancer and his death was a great loss to the dance community.

Fellow Strictly Come Dancing judge Bruno Tonioli paid tribute to Goodman on social media saying “Heartbroken my dear friend and partner for 19 years the one and only ballroom legend #lengoodman passed away.” Claudia Winkleman the host of Strictly Come Dancing also praised Goodman saying he was “a class act” and had “twinkle warmth and wit.”

Goodman’s family and loved ones were left devastated by his passing. Camilla Queen Consort expressed her sadness at Goodman’s death saying “I was saddened to hear of the passing of Len Goodman. He was a true legend in the world of dance and his loss will be felt by many.”
