Kiran Chetry Biography

Kiran Chetry was born on 26 August 1974 in Patan, Nepal, the son of Hom and Nancy Chetry. Kiran’s mother, a Ukrainian – Dutch woman of some German descent, met Hom, a Nepalese, while she was working as a Peace Corps volunteer in Nepal. Little Kiran was only seven months old when she emigrated with her family to the United States.

As a child, Kiran grew up in Maryland, where she attended Montgomery Blair High School in Maryland. She was an active member of the student government. After high school, Kiran Chetry went to the College of Journalism at the University of Maryland, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in broadcast journalism. She was a member of the Alpha Pi Chapter of the Delta Delta Association.

Her career began in 1995 when she was hired by WICU-TV in Erie, Pennsylvania, as an anchor for health-related issues. Her future husband Chris Knowles was also working at WICU-TV at that time.

Kiran’s big break came in 2001 when she received an offer to join the cable news channel Fox News Channel as a news and general reporter. During the six years she spent at Fox News, she hosted Fox News Live, Fox & Friends First, and then the weekend news show Fox & Friends Weekend.

After a contract dispute in 2007, Kiran moved to CNN where she co-hosted American Morning and hosted Anderson Cooper 360, Paula Zahn Now, CNN Newsroom, and Errol Barnett, a CNN International news show.

Kiran’s Relationship With Chris Knowles

Kiran and Chris first met when they both worked at WICU-TV. At that time, Kiran was an aspiring journalist who had just been hired as a reporter. Chris Knowles, on the other hand, was a meteorologist who had risen to become an established news anchor for the channel during prime time.

They fell in love, got married, and the union is blessed with two children.
