Georges St. Pierre is a Canadian-born professional mixed martial artist known for his long illustrious career in the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC). He became a professional in the early 2000s and over the years has successfully established himself as one of the most impressive fighters in the history of MMA.

St-Pierre is the champion in two divisions and has won both the welterweight and middleweight championship titles. In December 2013 he retired from the sport as the reigning welterweight world champion, but returned to the sport after a four-year break and won the middleweight title in November 2017. His term as middleweight champion ended on December 7, 2017, when he retired from the title due to some health problems.

Georges St Pierre – Biography, Age

The talented mixed martial artist was baptized Georges St-Pierre at his birth on May 19, 1981, in Saint-Isidore, Quebec, Canada. His parents are Roland and Pauline St-Pierre. He grew up participating in various sporting activities, including field hockey, skating, and karate. At the age of 16, he began to practice other martial arts such as wrestling, Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu, and boxing. He also had to do some odd jobs to make a living before he finally became a professional mixed martial artist at the age of 21.

It is known that St-Pierre became a professional in 2002, but his earlier years were poorly documented. He made his UFC debut in January 2004 at the UFC 46, where he defeated the highest-ranking MMA star Karo Parisyan. After a second win at UFC 48, St-Pierre got his first chance at the UFC World Welterweight Championship when he competed against Matt Hughes at UFC 50 in October 2004. However, he was defeated by Hughes by armbar presentation, which meant his first defeat in the UFC. St-Pierre quickly returned to his victories when he scored 4 wins in a row in the following fights.

At the UFC welterweight world championship at UFC 63 in September 2006, the budding artist was given another chance. Unfortunately, he could not participate in the match due to a groin injury and was therefore replaced by B.J. Penn. The following month, he was given a third chance to win the title when he competed against Matt Hughes in the UFC 65 event. St-Pierre won the fight in the second round by a technical knockout, which marked the beginning of his first appearance as UFC welterweight champion. His reign ended when he lost the title to Matt Serra at the UFC 69 event in April 2007.

In April 2008, Georges St-Pierre regained the welterweight title at the UFC 83 event in Quebec, Canada. This marked the beginning of his record reign of 2,064 days as UFC welterweight champion. Between 2008 and 2013 he successfully defended the title 9 times. He finally relinquished the title in December 2013 when he temporarily retired from professional mixed martial arts.

After a long break, Georges St-Pierre signed with the UFC again in February 2017 and decided this time to participate in the middleweight class. In his first match after his return to the UFC, St-Pierre competed in UFC 217 on November 4, 2017, against the then middleweight champion, Michael Bisping. He defeated Bisping in the third round by technical submission and became the new UFC middleweight champion. He also became the fourth MMA star in the history of the UFC to be crowned champion in several weight categories. His reign as UFC middleweight champion, however, was rather short-lived. St-Pierre left the middleweight title on December 7, 2017, after being diagnosed with ulcerative colitis.

Height and Other Body Measurements

Georges St. Pierre is 180 cm (5 feet 11 inches) tall. Before fighting for the middleweight title in November 2017, the MMA star had to increase his body mass from the welterweight limit of 170 pounds to the middleweight limit of 185 pounds. However, this weight gain program ultimately proved to be detrimental to his health as he developed ulcerative colitis. The two-time champion hopes to return to his natural weight and compete in the welterweight class.
