George Springer is a professional baseball player, currently with the Houston Astros of the MLB, where he holds the position of an outfield player. As an outfield player, he has played in both right and midfield. Springer is also a skilled right-handed pitcher and batsman.

The professional baseball player was brought straight out of college by the Astros in the first round of MLB 2011, he started in the Minor League before finally advancing to the Major League in 2014.

George Springer has won several awards and received recommendations in his career to date. In 2017 alone he won the Silver Slugger Award for the first time, became MLB All-Star and World Series Champion. He was also named the 2017 World Series Most Valuable Player (MVP) after scoring five home runs in a seven-player win over the Los Angeles Dodgers.

George Chelston Springer III was born on September 19, 1989, in New Britain, Connecticut, to Puerto Rican and Panamanian parents. His mother, Laura, is from Utuado, Puerto Rico, and his father, George II, is from Panama.

His grandfather, George I, allegedly moved to the United States when he was only seventeen years old and settled in Connecticut where he studied at the Connecticut Teachers College.

Springer’s parents were also keen on sports at some point in their lives. His father played college football for the Connecticut soccer team – the UConn Huskies. He also played a little baseball and participated in the 1976 Little League World Series. His mother was a top gymnast in her youth. Two of his sisters, Nicole and Lena, played softball in college.

George Springer Career

Coming from a family where both parents were former sportsmen, Springer started playing baseball at an early age. As a freshman at New Britain High School, George played on his baseball team, even though he was 6’2″ tall and 100 pounds at the time.

After his first year at New Britain High School, he transferred to Avon Old Farms School in Avon, Connecticut, where he had to repeat his junior year due to poor grades. However, George completed his high school education at Avon Old Farms School. He played for the school baseball team.

In 2008, he was selected by the Minnesota Twins in the 48th round of the 2008 MLB Draft, but he turned down the offer because he did not feel ready to go pro. After high school, he was accepted at the University of Connecticut where he played college baseball for the Huskies baseball team. The following year he was named America Freshman All-America First Team and Rookie of the Year at the Big East Conference.

In 2011 he was named First Team All-American and Big East Conference Baseball Player of the Year. He has also been named First Team All-American by Perfect Game USA, Louisville Slugger, and the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association.

George Springer was also named the second All-American Team by Baseball America. His college career came to an end in 2011 when he was drafted by the Houston Astros in the first round of the 2011 MLB Draft and reached the highest selection in Connecticut baseball history.

After his contract with the Astros, which included a $2.52 million bonus, he began his rookie season with the Tri-City ValleyCats in the Class A-Short Season New York-Penn League, where he played eight games before the next season began. George was named by MLB.com as the 84th best prospect in baseball to watch out for in the new season.

In the seasons that followed, before advancing to the Major League, he played for the Lancaster JetHawks of the Class A-Advanced California League, then the Corpus Christi Hooks of the Class AA Texas League, and finally the Oklahoma City RedHawks of the Class AAA Pacific Coast League. Between those years, Springer hit his 22 home runs, recorded 28 stolen bases, joined the 30-30 club, appeared in the Texas League All-Star Game, and was named the most valuable player.

At the end of the 2012 season, he was also named Texas League Player of the Year, although he only played 73 games for Corpus Christi. He also won USA Today’s Minor League Player of the Year and was ranked 18th best prospect in baseball by Baseball America.

He started the 2014 season with Oklahoma City before moving up to the MBL. He made his MLB debut on April 16, 2014, in a game against the Kansas City Royals. In 2017, he was named the most valuable player in the World Series Most Valuable Player (MVP) and received the American League Silver Slugger Award.

In May 2018, Springer was the first player in the history of the Astros franchise to score six goals in a game with nine wins.

George Springer married his girlfriend Charlise Castro on 20 January 2018. He had made the proposal in December 2016 while they were on vacation in San Jose Del Cabo, Mexico.

According to Castro, they met while playing international softball (actually she played at the University of Albany and for the national team of Puerto Rico). During her college career, she was named America East Conference Player of the Year and also became the second player to ever win the league’s Triple Crown in the history of the conference.

The former softball player, who holds a degree in Communications from the University of Albany and a master in Business Administration from the College of Saint Rose, Albany, New York, currently works as a personal trainer and also runs her own fitness blog and website.

A jumper who started playing baseball stood at 5 feet 2 inches and weighed 100 pounds, now 6 feet 3 inches, or 1.92 meters, and weighs 215 pounds (98 kg).

He is a stutterer and works as a spokesman for the Stuttering Association for Youth (SAY) Foundation. The Foundation, which is based in Houston, offers treatment to children with speech development disorders to help them build and restore their self-confidence.
