Tragic news from the sports world. Dimitrious Stanley made a name for himself as a football player. The wide receiver was particularly successful in college football with the Ohio State Buckeyes. He was also represented in the Canadian Football League and in action for the Winnipeg Blue Bombers. But now tragic news is making the rounds: Dimitrios passed away at the age of just 48.

In 2019, the athlete made a sad diagnosis public: prostate cancer. He was briefly in remission – but the disease returned, according to a GoFundMe campaign set up by Dimitrios’ fellow footballer Tyson Gentry. Anthony Rothman, who had moderated football game analysis with him, said goodbye to him via Twitter. “My heart is broken. My best friend and brother Dimitrios Stanley have passed away after an incredibly brave battle with prostate cancer,” he wrote.

Dimitrios’ performance at the 1997 Rose Bowl will be particularly remembered. Back then, he caught a 72-yard touchdown that gave Ohio State a 20-17 win over Arizona State.
