Darius Rucker is an American singer and songwriter who is very popular as the lead singer of the rock band Hootie & the Blowfish. The singer is very versatile and has also made a name for himself as a solo artist in various genres. Since he has been around for over 30 years, there are many things about him that many people want to know.

Darius Rucker Biography and Age

He was born on 13 May 1966 as Darius Rucker in Charleston, South Carolina. Although it is easy to assume that he grew up with music because his father was a member of the gospel band Rolling Stone, his father had very little influence in his life because he was raised by his mother together with his five other siblings. In fact, while growing up, he had very little contact with his father, of whom he saw very little.

Apart from his mother, another person who helped him with his upbringing was his grandmother, since Darius Rucker mother, who was a nurse, had to work. However, this did not prevent him from experiencing great poverty as a child, since he shared a three-bedroom apartment with his aunts and other children, nearly 20 in all.

For his education, Darius Rucker attended Charleston’s Middleton High School, and after graduation, he transferred to the University of South Carolina. Here he began to further his musical career, although he had already sung in his church choir as a young boy.

The university gave him the opportunity to meet people like Mark Bryan, Jim “Soni” Sonefeld, and Dean Felber, and together they formed the rock band Hootie & the Blowfish. That was in 1986.

In the meantime, the band has released 5 studio albums. The first one, “Cracked Rear View”, was released in 1994 and was a huge success, topping the Billboard charts in the US and recording a diamond certificate in the US and Canada, while achieving gold in the UK and platinum in Australia. Fairweather Johnson, their next album, was released in 1996 and was also very successful. Her next three albums were “Musical Chairs” (1998), “Hootie & the Blowfish” (2003), and “Looking for Lucky” (2005).

The rock band won the Grammy Awards in 1996 when they received both the award for best new artist and the best pop performance by a duo or group with vocals for Let Her Cry. They also have 2 American Music Awards and an MTV Video Music Award.

Hootie & the Blowfish took a break in 2008 and Darius Rucker decided to pursue a solo career as a country musician. His first album this time was Learn to Live, which he released the same year. He then released Charleston, SC 1966 (2010), True Believers (2012), Southern Style and Home for the Holidays (2014) and When Was the Last Time (2016). Surprisingly, the man who had also released an R& B album Back to Then in 2002 was also very successful as a country singer.

Among the awards, he won this time were the Country Music Association Awards for New Artist of the Year (2009) and a Grammy for Best Country Solo Performance (2013). He also won a British Country Music Association Award for the International Album of the Year (2015).

Considering that he was born in 1966, it is quite easy to guess his real age.

Family: Wife and Kids

Darius Rucker is married to Beth Leonard. When the singer saw the woman for the first time, he knew immediately that she was the one he was going to marry and he made sure that he told her on her first date. The two decided to enter into the bond of marriage in 2000.

Beth Leonard gave birth to the couple’s first child, Daniella Rose, in 2001, and in 2005 she gave birth to a son, Jack.

Before marrying Beth Leonard, Darius Rucker had a daughter, Carolyn Pearl Phillips, with his then-girlfriend. Carolyn Pearl Phillips was born on April 21, 1995.
