Austin Butler (31) was not too good for anything when preparing for his “Elvis” role! For the biopic about Elvis Presley (42), which was released in cinemas last year, the actor slipped into the role of the King of Rock ‘n’ Roll. Even before the publication, the native Californian had said that he had been so intensely involved with the Elvis portrayal that he lost himself. He even gained weight to portray the musician as he grew older – but Austin now regrets the weight gain for “Elvis”!

On Variety’s “Awards Circuit” podcast, the actor talks about his intense preparation for portraying Elvis. Although Austin wore a fat suit anyway for the later scenes of the drama, he still wanted to gain weight himself. He ate two dozen donuts and gained a few pounds after a while. However, that was anything but good for the native Californian. “It’s fun for a week or so, but eventually you feel awful,” confesses the “The Shannara Chronicles” star.

Other actors go to extremes for their roles too! Because Ryan Gosling (42) gained 27 kilos for one of his roles! Austin apparently took inspiration from that, as he also admits: “I heard that Ryan Gosling melted Häagen-Dazs ice cream in the microwave and drank it for ‘In My Heaven’. I tried that too.”
