Richard Belzer (78) is best known for his work on the television series Law & Order. Before that, he had appeared in numerous series and films and also fascinated audiences with his funny nature. This brought him to a dubbing role in the American animated series South Park. But now sad news has spread: Richard passed away today at the age of 78.

It has not yet been announced why the actor died, the American magazine TMZ reported. Due to his old age, one can only assume that he died of natural causes. Some of his former colleagues already publicly expressed their grief. Laraine Newman worked with Richard from the mid-’70s through the ’80s and wrote, “I loved this man so much. He was one of my first friends when I came to New York.” Comedian Marc Maron also expressed his sadness and called him one of “the greats”.

On “Law & Order” Richard played a quick-witted and sharp-witted detective. In the role, he appeared in the series for almost 300 episodes. However, his role was canceled in 2016.
