Jakub Jankto (27) finds harsh words for his industry. A few days ago, the Czech national player took a big step: he came out as homosexual despite the repression that went with it. He finally wanted to live in freedom and no longer hide. The kicker is still relatively alone in the football world – hardly any gay professional dares to stand by himself. Now Jakub spoke in detail about his outing for the first time.
“Football is still homophobic. Otherwise, I wouldn’t be one of the first to come out,” he said in an interview with radio station Italia 1 . Too many of his colleagues are afraid to disclose their homosexuality. “Hopefully I could help them in this way and announce that it is normal for footballers to be gay,” said Jakub finally confidently.
Fortunately, the midfield star only had positive experiences in the first game after his outing: “It was wonderful. Everyone applauded me. For the first time in a long time, I played with a smile. Now I can win, score, score hat-tricks, and all that all with a smile on your face.” Jakub is particularly concerned with protecting his ex-wife and their son.
