However, Bagley’s stay at Hillcrest was short-lived due to the program’s poor reputation. Bagley went to Chatsworth, California, where he attended Sierra Canyon School. But then the rules of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) declared Bagley ineligible to play in his first year at the school. He started playing in his junior season, where he averaged 24.6 points, 10.1 rebounds, 1.6 assists, and two steals in 29 games. He was named to the first team of All-USA Today, 2017.

A 5-star high school recruit, Bagley received his first scholarship offer from Northern Arizona University at the age of 14. However, after his reclassification in 2017, Bagley qualified for the 2018 NCAA season. Bagley snubbed the University of Arizona’s offer and went to Duke, where he broke decades-old records. He finished his first season as ACC Player of the Year and ACC Rookie of the Year. He also made it into the first team of the Consensus All-American and won the Pete Newell Big Man Award.

Marvin Bagley III relinquished his three-year college eligibility and signed up for the 2018 NBA Draft, where he was selected by the Sacramento Kings.
