Malachy Murphy is an Irish teenager, best known as the son of Cillian Murphy, the actor from Peaky Blinders. Malachy’s father Cillian is also a big name in Hollywood, having starred in Nolan’s Batman trilogy, Inception, The Quiet Place franchise, and others.

Sources have always predicted how Malachy and his brother are becoming more like their father every day. Although an actor, Cillian has kept his family, including his sons, away from the press from the very beginning. Malachy Murphy, the now 16-year-old son of the Batman Begins actor, was born in England, although both his parents are Irish. He was born on 4 December 2005. His brother Aaran Murphy was also born in England.

Brendan Murphy’s grandson Malachi and his brother Aaran both grew up mainly in the UK, thanks to their father Cillian’s career on Peaky Blinders.

The Golden Globe nominee lived in London for 14 years. Malachy, who is also the nephew of Orla and Sil Murphy, later spent his teenage years in his parents’ Victorian townhouse on the coast south of the Irish capital.

However, he apparently never lived in the USA, as his actor father once said that he never wanted to move to Los Angeles permanently, even when he was working in Hollywood. The 28 Days Later actor says that he still likes to visit the city.

Malachy’s paternal grandmother, also Cillian’s mum, was an English and French teacher in Ireland. Her grandfather worked in the education department.

Malachy’s Birth Was One Of The Best Moments For His Father, Cillian Murphy  

While Yvonne was pregnant with Malachy, his father Cillian was starring in the 2006 war drama The Wind That Shakes The Barley. The married couple was living in Cork at the time. The Breakfast on Pluto actor says that the time he and his wife Yvonne were preparing to become fathers for the first time while filming The Wind…. was one of his favorite acting experiences.

Murphy’s birth was just around the corner when the 2005 film Batman Begins, in which his father plays Dr. Jonathan Crane/The Terrible Man, hit the cinemas.

Malachy’s Parents; Who Is His Mother, Yvonne McGuiness? 

Malachy’s parents, Cillian and Yvonne McGuinness met when the former was touring his first play, Disco Pigs. Sometime after their relationship began, the Irish couple settled in London in 2001. The “Inception” actor married Yvonne in 2004.

A year after the wedding, the Peaky Blinders actor and his long-time girlfriend-turned-wife welcomed their first child, a son named Malachy Murphy. Cillian and his long-term partner became parents again in 2007 when Malachy’s brother Aaran was born.

Both of Malachy’s parents, Cillian and Yvonne, are from Ireland; Cillian was born in Cork, and Malachy’s mother is from Kilkenny.

Malachy’s mother is a former student of classical visual arts who holds an MA from the Royal College of Art in London. She now organizes live, public interventions and performances.

Malachy Murphy Once Lost His Irish Accent Which Worried His Actor Father

Back in 2015, Malachy and his brother Aaran caused serious concern for their actor father Cillian, and artist mother Yvonne when they were on the verge of losing their Irish accent.

By then, the boys had been living in London for several years. The sons of the Cork-born actor had therefore already begun to speak with English accents. Cillian and Yvonne had been living in the English capital with their sons for 15 years at the time, as the Murphy patriarch worked as Thomas Shelby in Peaky Blinders.

Speaking about his worry about his sons losing their native accents, Cillian told the Armchair Expert podcast,

We wanted the kids to be Irish. They were sort of at that age where they were pre-teens and had very posh English accents.

The 46-year-old actor added that he didn’t appreciate it too much. So the family of four, Cillian said, decided to go back to their native Ireland.

The father of two revealed that another reason he wanted Yvonne and their sons Malachy and Aran to move to Ireland was because he and his wife wanted to be closer to their parents. Cillian also said that his time on The Peaky Blinders, which was coming to an end, helped him to move his family back home.

On moving his family back to Ireland, Malachy’s father said the practice was an Irish story to move away. He claimed it was in his blood to return home as soon as the job was finished.

Cillian Murphy Says His Sons Malachy And Aaran Figured Themselves Out At Quite A Young Age  

In a rare session in which he talked about his sons, Cillian said that in terms of growing up and understanding themselves, Malachy and his brother Aaran do it better than the old man himself.

Speaking to the Guardian in 2016, the father of two Cillian revealed that although it took him a long time to understand who he was, his sons Malachy and Aaran had developed confidence in themselves even at their then young age.

But the In Time actor revealed that this was something he had missed at their age. He said that Malachy and his siblings had become more confident at quite a young age and he was happy about that. Although the boys themselves have always remained reticent to show what they do.

Is Malachy Murphy On The Peaky Blinders

In the BBC drama series Peaky Blinders, Cillian’s character Thomas Shelby has three children. He welcomed his first child, Erasmus Duke Shelby, before the First World War with a woman called Zelda. Shelby then fathered another child, Charles with Gracie, and another child, Ruby with Lizzie.

Although none of Shelby’s children are played by any of Killian’s real-life children.

Throughout the series, Charles is played by three actors, Billy Marwood, Jenson Clarke, and Jenson Clarke. Ruby is played by actress Haven Leigh Clay. Finally, Erasmus Shelby is played by Conrad Khan.

• Malachy’s father Cillian had formed the band Sons of Mr. Green Genes with his younger brother Paide when they were young. The band apparently almost signed a record deal but later decided to abandon the idea.
• Cillian once revealed that Malachi and his brother Aaran did not like the fact that their father was famous.
