The brilliant actress Viola Davis was born on August 11, 1965, on her grandmother’s farm in South Carolina in the United States of America. She belongs to the black ethnic group and has American citizenship. She grew up with her parents and five other siblings in Central Falls, Rhode Island. Davis’s family was very poor and suffered from serious financial constraints. Her mother Mary Alice worked as a maid and factory worker, while her father Davis worked as a horse trainer just to make ends meet.
Viola, however, attended Central Falls High School, where she participated in stage plays and other art activities. After graduating high school, she entered the Young People’s School for Performing Arts in West Warwick and then enrolled at Rhode Island College.

At Rhode Island College, Davis studied theatre arts and graduated in 1988. She also attended the Juilliard School for four years, where she was a member of the school’s drama club called “Group 22”.
