The “Arielle” shoot was so demanding! After almost five years, director Rob Marshall (62) is thrilled to complete the project. In 2019, casting the lead with Halle Bailey made waves. In the meantime, fans have calmed down a bit and can look forward to Melissa McCarthy (52) as Ursula in addition to YouTube fame. Now Rob describes the challenges he and his team faced during the shoot.

“The preparations for this film were insane,” the 62-year-old told The Wrap. The technical implementation of the remake is extremely complicated: “I don’t think anyone has ever made a musical underwater.” Due to these special conditions, even more, choreography and rehearsals were more necessary than a musical already requires. “I’m very proud of the film. It’s definitely the most challenging film I’ve ever made. No question” is the director’s clear conclusion.

Filming was also a challenge for the cast. Daveed Diggs (41), who has the honor of playing the cult crab Sebastian, said in a previous interview: ” I did more research for this role than I ever have before and I’m literally a crab. That might seem crazy in hindsight. And what I’m doing is nothing compared to what Halle or some of the other incredible performers are doing.”
