After 180 games Sergio Ramos (36) is over! The central defender is one of the best football players in the world. The Real Madrid legend has been playing for the Spanish national team since 2005 – he was even the captain of La Roja from 2016 to 2020. With his team he was able to secure the European title in 2008 and 2012 – in between in 2010 the world title. Now Sergio resigns from the national team!

On Instagram the 36-year-old posts a long statement under a photo foray into his national career highlights: “The time to say goodbye to the national team of our beloved and exciting Roja has come” writes the father of four. The post shows that Sergio is probably not leaving his team voluntarily: the Paris Saint-Germain star makes it clear in his letter that the team’s coach has no intention of using him in the future. “I will continue to passionately cheer for my country from home,” El Capitano tells his fans.

His contribution contains a number of appreciative words from well-known colleagues. For example, Kylian Mbappé (24) writes: “The best” and adds the Spanish national flag and a goat. Neymar Jr. (31) joins the admiration and posts three clapping emojis. His wife Pilar touched with the words: “You are and will remain immortal for us. Thank you for being an example for our family and everyone who follows you. I love you.”
